EVN committing to improve Energy Efficiency Program

That is the affirmation made by Mr. Vo Quang Lam - Deputy General Director of Vietnam Electricity (EVN) at the ASEAN Electricity Workshop on energy efficiency, demand response and customer services. The workshop was opened on 10th April 2019, in Da Lat City, Lam Dong Province.

Participants at the Workshop were representatives from State Management Agencies, ASEAN power enterprises such as Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT); Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) (Malaysia); Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) (Indonesia); MERALCO and Electricity Regulatory Authority of the Philippines; National Environment Agency (Singapore), Singapore Power and leaders, staffs from EVN’s specialized departments and 5 Power Corporations directly under EVN.

Mr. Vo Quang Lam said that in recent years, EVN has made a big change in scale, modernization of the power system as well as the quality of customer services.

Particularly, by the end of 2018, the installed capacity of the whole system reached over 49,000MW; total generation power output of the system reached 220 billion kWh, the electricity growth rate had been 11.15% compared to that of 2017. EVN supplied power to 100% of communes, 99.37% of rural households nationwide. In the coming years, Vietnam’s electricity growth rate would remain at high level, over 10%.

The society increasingly develops, people’s living is improved day by day, resulting in higher and more diverse demand on energy. At the same time, the expectation of customers for power supply service is also getting higher all the time.

This fact has shown significant challenges facing the Power sector of each country, especially under the context of increasingly difficult development for power supply and strict criteria, requirements for environmental protection at the same time.

“Therefore, this Workshop is an event to demonstrate the commitment of improving the program of energy efficiency, demand response and customer services of EVN,” affirmed Mr. Vo Quang Lam.

The workshop focusing on exchanging issues: Energy efficiency, demand response and customer services

Through the Workshop, EVN wishes to learn experiences from regional Power units in order to study and apply into the practical operation of the Group. At the same time, the Group also wishes to continue maintaining and further promoting the spirit of friendship, joint sharing and development among ASEAN countries.

Answering the questions of international delegates about the reason for remaining implementation of Energy Efficiency and Demand Response program while being a country with great potential for energy, Vo Quang Lam said that, currently, the electricity growth rate of Vietnam has remained high, particularly power using intensity at the highest level in the world. Therefore, Vietnam hoped to reduce the intensity and energy costs for people and enterprises, in order to improve competitiveness.

Natural resources are limited. Therefore, EVN expects to gradually reduce fossil energy usage to create a healthy and sustainable living environment for future generations.

The workshop took place on 10th and 11th April 2019. Representatives of the units will present and discuss about: Demand side management (DSM) of EVN and future plans; power demand response program in Thailand; programs on energy efficiency, customer services of Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, etc.
