EVN has well done task of managing and operating works, regulating reservoirs on Da River hydropower cascade
In 2022 and early 2023, Vietnam Electricity (EVN) and hydropower companies of Hoa Binh, Son La, Huoi Quang - Ban Chat have successfully completed the task of managing, operating the works, and regulating the reservoirs for 5 hydropower works on the Da River cascade - This is the assertion of Mr. Huynh Thanh Dat, Minister of Science and Technology, Chairman of the Science and Technology Advisory Council on assessing the safety of dams and reservoirs on the Da River hydropower cascade (Council).
Being eligible to participate in flood control and water storage
In 2022 and early 2023, Vietnam Electricity and hydropower companies of Hoa Binh, Son La, Huoi Quang - Ban Chat have successfully completed the task of managing, operating the works, and regulating the reservoirs for 5 hydropower works on the Da River cascade, including Hoa Binh, Son La, Huoi Quang - Ban Chat - Minister of Science and Technology Huynh Thanh Dat noted.
The results of monitoring and measuring parameters and assessing the working status of the works up to May 2023 show that hydropower companies have carried out the overall inspection and safety assessment of the dams, and water reservoirs; repaired, and consolidated the work items and equipment; taken proactive measures to prevent, combat and promptly handle damages to ensure the safety of the dams and water reservoirs. The works are eligible to participate in flood control and water storage in 2023.

Need to join hands to protect the safety of reservoir corridor
* In the first half of 2023, hydrological developments are not favorable, especially in the Northern region:
- Water inflow to reservoirs in the Northern region is commonly at 50-60% compared to the average level of many years and 40%-80% over the same period in 2022.
- Large hydropower plants, including Lai Chau, Son La, Hoa Binh, Tuyen Quang, Thac Ba, had no minor floods in May.
- The total amount of water in May-June of the Northern hydropower plants is 27% lower than the average level of many years.
* Total electricity production in the first 5 months of 2023 generated by 5 hydropower plants namely Lai Chau, Son La, Hoa Binh, Huoi Quang, Ban Chat: 7.26 billion kWh, decreases by 1.08 billion kWh over the same period in 2022 and accounts for 6.20% of the whole system's electricity output.

Based on the assessment of the monitoring data of the works from June 2022 to the end of May 2023 and the inspection results of hydropower works by the Council experts in the mission surveying and inspecting the hydropower works on the Da river hydropower cascade from May 29, 2023 - June 2, 2023, it is shown that the current status of EVN's hydropower works on the Da river hydropower cascade is in stable and safe working status, being eligible to store water and intake floods in 2023.
