EVN General Director Tran Dinh Nhan gives a speech at the project implementation ceremony
The Nam Mo - Tuong Duong 220kV transmission line project is a dual-circuit line from the Vietnam - Laos border to the Tuong Duong 220kV substation. The line has a length of 74.4km, capable of load carrying of 1,000MW, with a total investment of VND 588 billion by EVN, assigned to manage by Power Project Management Board 1. The line on the Vietnamese side passes through Tuong Duong and Ky Son districts, Nghe An province.
On the basis of the power purchase agreement (PPA) signed between the Government of Vietnam and the Government of Laos, on 5 November 2019, the Prime Minister issued Document No. 1490/TTg-CN approving the power importing policy and the Nam Mo Hydropower Plant cluster (Laos) connecting plan via the Nam Mo (Laos) - Tuong Duong 220kV transmission line project (the section on the Vietnamese territory) to transmit the capacity of the hydropower plants on Nam Mo river area in Laos' territory to Vietnam (including 16 hydropower plants with a total capacity of 850MW). Currently, EVN has signed 7 PPAs with power plants with a total capacity of 300MW.
Delegates perform the project implementation ceremony
Immediately after the Prime Minister approved of power importing policy and Nam Mo Hydropower Plant cluster connecting plan, Vietnam Electricity assigned the Power Project Management Board 1 to urgently implement the project, with the schedule to be put into operation in June 2022, synchronize with the hydropower plant project in Laos. It is expected that the annual electricity transmission output is about 2.5 billion kWh to the national power system.
According to the agreement signed between the two Governments of Vietnam and the Government of Laos, by 2025, Vietnam will import 3,000MW of electricity from Laos and up to 5,000MW by 2030.
This is the second power transmission project serving the power import from Laos to Vietnam (after the Xekaman 1-Pleiku 2 220kV transmission line). The project is very important to meet the increasing power demand in Vietnam, especially to ensure power supply for the North in the coming years.
Leaders of EVN give the donation to Tuong Duong and Ky Son districts, VND 200 million each.
The National Power Transmission Corporation closely cooperates with Phongsubthavy Group in construction work, synchronously connecting the whole transmission line to ensure safe and smooth operation.
