The total power production and import output of the whole system in February reached 22.24 billion kWh, an increase of 12.6% compared to February 2024; in which the largest daily output reached 876.9 billion kWh and the largest capacity reached 45,458 MW (on the same day, 27 February). Accumulated in the first 2 months of 2025, the total system output reached 45.06 billion kWh; the proportion of mobilized power sources of the whole system in the first 2 months of 2025 is as follows:
+ Hydropower: 9.29 billion kWh, accounting for 20.6%.
+ Coal-fired thermal power: reached 24.82 billion kWh, accounting for 55.1%.
+ Gas turbine: 2.7 billion kWh, accounting for 6%.
+ Renewable energy: 7.34 billion kWh, accounting for 16.3% (of which solar power reached 4.07 billion kWh, wind power reached 3.04 billion kWh).
+ Imported electricity: 863 million kWh, accounting for 1.9%, etc.
Power transmission output in February 2025 is estimated at 17.44 billion kWh (up 12.1% compared to February 2024); the cumulative output in the first 2 months of 2025 is estimated at 35.43 billion kWh.
In the first 2 months of 2025, EVN has also organized the maximal operation of Hoa Binh, Thac Ba, and Tuyen Quang Hydropower Plants to supplement water sources at the request of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, and at the same time ensure power supply for pumping stations and in-field pumping operations to serve the rice cultivation of the Winter-Spring crop 2023 - 2024 for the Northern Midland and Delta provinces. Including the two water intake periods (15.5 days), the total amount of water discharged from hydropower reservoirs is 3.269 billion m3 (phase 1 is 1.363 billion m3, phase 2 is 1.906 billion m3), saving 859 million m3 of water compared to the original plan. Coordination, direction, and operation between agencies (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, General Department of Irrigation, Vietnam Electricity, Institute of Irrigation Planning, National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasting, localities) have been well implemented.
Investment and construction: Power source projects (Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant Expansion, Quang Trach I Thermal Power Plant, Bac Ai Pumped Storage Hydropower Plant) are focusing on implementation and closely following progress.
Regarding the power grid, in the first 2 months of 2025, EVN and its units started 13 works and completed energizing 28 power grid works from 110kV to 500kV (including 01 500kV project, 02 220kV projects, and 25 110kV projects), including the Monsoon - Thanh My 500kV transmission line project to serve power import from Laos.
Some key tasks of EVN in March 2025
EVN requires its member units to focus their efforts on implementing tasks under the direction of the Government and the Prime Minister to strive to successfully complete the tasks of the 2025 plan while thoroughly implementing the prevention of waste in work activities.
Regarding power production and supply:
- Ensuring power supply for production and consumption during the peak months of the dry season 2025. In particular, EVN closely coordinates with NSMO in establishing the method of operating the national power system to ensure sufficient power supply for production, business, and consumption.
- Coordinating the operation, optimally mobilizing power sources in the power system, combining to increase maximum transmission from the Central region to the North, and regulating the water level of hydropower reservoirs at a reasonable level until the end of the dry season in 2025 to increase the available capacity of hydropower plants.
- Power Generation Corporations and power generation units ensure sufficient fuel for power production by system demand; strictly implement technical management, inspection, review of processes, and regulations in operation and maintenance to ensure the availability and reliability of generators.
- National Power Transmission Corporation safely and reliably operates the power grid system; Strengthens inspection and thoroughly handles equipment defects, handles risks of violating the line corridor to ensure stable operation of power lines and substations.
- Power Corporations/Power Companies develop and implement backup plans to ensure stable and continuous power supply in areas producing essential goods, industrial parks, export processing zones, and densely populated areas; proactively monitor developments, closely follow local economic and social development, take responsibility for analyzing the structure of load components, improve the quality of load forecasting and prepare power supply scenarios; continue to implement Directive No. 20 on propaganda and implementation of electricity saving.
- EVN and Power Corporations in coordination with the Ministry of Industry and Trade and People's Committees of provinces/cities organize activities in response to the movement "All people save energy in response to Earth Hour 2025".
Regarding investment in power source construction: Accelerating the construction progress of key power source projects, ensuring the power generation target of Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant Expansion in the fourth quarter of 2025; connecting unit 1 of Quang Trach I Thermal Power Plant to the grid before 2 September 2025 as directed by the Prime Minister.
Regarding grid construction investment: In March 2025, units will focus on completing the selection of contractors and organizing construction on the entire Lao Cai - Vinh Yen 500kV transmission line; ensuring the progress of 02 220kV bays to synchronize the energization of the Huoi Quang - Nghia Lo 220kV transmission line and the Nghia Lo 220kV substation; concentrating all resources to accelerate construction progress to energize Phu Binh 2 220kV substation and connecting 220kV line, etc.
To ensure electricity for economic development and people's lives in all situations, EVN desires to continue to receive the sharing and active cooperation of people and power customers through thoroughly using electricity economically, especially during peak hours at noon and in the evening. In particular, pay special attention to using air conditioning reasonably, only turning on the air conditioner when necessary, setting the temperature at 26-27 degrees Celsius or higher; at the same time, pay attention not to use many high-capacity electrical devices during peak hours.
