According to Vice President Ngo Son Hai, in terms of scale, the power system of Vietnam ranks 2nd in the South East Asia region. Over the past time, EVN’s member organizations have met technical indicators in power grid operation, satisfying a high load growth rate, as well as supplying electricity to the system in a safe and stable manner.

In order to realize the goal of being in top 4 countries in the South East Asia region by 2020, the EVN’s leader requested EVN’s member organizations to well perform technical management works. In 2017, alleviation of faults and modernization of devices and equipment of operation management team should be paid much attention.
Reporting at the Conference, Mr. Le Viet Hung – Deputy Director of Technical and Operational Department of Vietnam Electricity stated that until the end of 2016, the national power grid had covered up to 99.97% of the total communes, towns and more than 99.12% of the total households. Since the load has been growing constantly during the past years (11% – 14%), the 110 kV - 500 kV power networks as well as the medium and low voltage power networks are expanding quickly to secure electricity supply to customers.
Typically, in the North, the 500 kV networks are shaped to loop Son La, Hoa Binh, Hiep Hoa, Quang Ninh, Pho Noi 500 kV substations. In the South, 500 kV loop networks between Phu Lam, Cau Bong, Tan Dinh, Song May, Phu My, Nha Be 500 kV substations are shaped to interconnect the power network of the East Southern region with the West Southern region.
Between the regions, there are double circuit 500 kV power lines to interconnect the power networks in the North and in the Centre from Ha Linh to Pleiku, and four circuit 500 kV power lines interconnecting the Center and the South. 220 kV power networks are being invested in most of the load centers, provinces and cities, etc.
Therefore, during 2016, EVN had satisfactorily met the power requirements for production, business and residential uses of the people with the power sales of 159.45 billion kWh, increasing by 11% over the year 2015 and 350 million kWh higher than the plan.
Taking the mission of sufficiently satisfying the national power demand with increasingly better quality, EVN has set specific objectives such as: By the year 2020, the power loss rate will be trimmed down to 6.5% (while this targeted figure for 2017 is 7.47%); the power grid from 110 kV above will principally operate in conformity to N-1 criterion; transform 60% of 220 kV substations and 100% of 110 kV substations to unmanned and remote controlled substations, etc.;...
