EVN signed two Memorandum of Understanding on  cooperation in the electricity area with Korean partners

The MOU Signing Ceremony was held on March 22, 2018 in Hanoi, witnessed by the Vietnamese Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh and the Korean Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Paik Un Gyu.

The signing ceremony took place after the talks between the Minister of Industry and Trade of Vietnam Tran Tuan Anh and the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy of Korea (MOTIE) Paik Un Gyu on the occasion of his accompanying the South Korean President in an official visit to Vietnam from March 22 – 24, 2018.

The two Ministers signed memorandums of understanding, including a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in the field of power generation; and a Memorandum of Understanding on comprehensive cooperation in energy safety management.

The two Memorandums of Understanding recently signed by Vietnam Electricity and Korean partners are among the 10 documents being signed by businesses of the two countries in the industry and trade area, witnessed by Ministers on this occasion.

EVN’s Chairman of Board of Directors Duong Quang Thanh signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in building a pilot wind farm and offshore energy storage system between Vietnam Electricity (EVN), Korea South East Power Company Ltd. and Doosan Heavy Industries and Construction Company Ltd.

Over the past years, Korean partners have been involved in many of Vietnam's power projects and contributed significantly to the development of Vietnam's power industry.

In particular, some typical power projects invested by EVN with the involvement of Korean partners such as Mong Duong 1 Thermal Power Plant where Hyundai E&C was EPC contractor, completed and operated from the end of 2015; Trung Son Hydropower Plant where Samsung C & T was the main contractor, completed and put the last power unit into operation in 2017; Vinh Tan 4, Vinh Tan 4 Expansion Thermal Power Plants implemented by the Consortium among Doosan, Mitsubishi, Pacific and PECC 2 have strictly stick to the project time schedules.

In addition, Korean partners have been taken part in the development of BOT / IPP projects in Vietnam such as Nam Dinh 1 Thermal Power Plant (Taekwang), Nghi Son 2 Thermal Power Plant (KEPCO) and other power generation projects invested by PVN and Vinacomin. EVN has been working with partners in negotiating relevant power purchase agreements.
