According to the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT), power demand in Hai Phong city is supplied by four 220kV substations with a total capacity of 1,625MVA and fourteen 220kV loop connected and double circuit power lines with a total length of 192km. Power lines for Hai Phong city operate at normal load levels, not overloaded. However, transformers at 220kV Dong Hoa substation are full loaded (over 80% of rated load) frequently during the peak summer months (from May to August).
With the policy of expanding existing industrial zones and industrial clusters, and building 15 new industrial zones with an area of 6,418ha in the next five years, anticipating a wave of FDI investment to Hai Phong, a growth rate and power demand in the area is expected to increase highly. Investment and development of power projects are key tasks to attract investors to Hai Phongcity.

In 2021-2025 period, EVNNPT will deploy nine 220-500kV projects in the city. These projects shall be started soon with the goal of increasing power supply to meet the demand for load growth.
EVNNPT proposed the Hai Phong City People's Committee to consider and approve preliminarily the location of substations and line alignment for EVNNPT and related units to survey, design, register master plans and land use plans in parallel with the approval process for adjustment of Hai Phong City Construction Master Plan.
Power sales in Hai Phong City:
• In the period 2016-2019, an annual average increase of 13.1%.
• In 2020, an increase of 3.61% compared to the previous year, due to the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic.
