EVNHCMC: Promoting electrical safety in residential areas

Ho Chi Minh City Power Corporation (EVNHCMC) said that in May 2017, no new cases of violation of power safety corridor, no occupational accidents, no household electrical accidents and no severe fire or explosion cases due to electrical incidents occurred in the city.

Before that, at the request of the Party Committee and the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, since December 2016, EVNHCMC had developed a plan to secure prevention and protection from fires and explosions caused by electrical accidents in the city for the year 2017. Until June 2017, the Corporation has implemented the plan in 10,078 out of 13,550 households, achieving 74% of the yearly plan.

In the coming time, the Corporation will continue their inspection activities in densely populated areas in streets, hamlets where there are communication cables, private light bulbs, power sub-cables connecting from main power meters, etc. in order to detect unsafe or unpleasant locations so as to put forward recommendations and to coordinate with local authorities for timely remedial actions.

At the same time, the Corporation will strengthen examinations of medium and low voltage grids, substations in order to detect and promptly handle unsafe cases; to clear-cut trees near power lines, substations; to reinforce ventilation nets of standby substations, switchgear boards, covered meter boxes, to prevent exposed points on grids; to enhance technical management in order to improve the effectiveness and roles of route management workers.

In particular, EVNHCMC will collaborate with local authorities to communicate, educate and train residential administration committees, residential groups, local youth unions and women’s unions, etc. to improve their knowledge, practices and skills on electrical safety, prevention of and protection from fire and explosion caused by household power uses; establishing information bulletins, posters, panels on electrical safety, electrical fire and explosion protection to be hanged at residential areas, stairways in buildings, etc.

Until May 2017, EVNHCMC has totally 2.2 million electrical customers, i.e an increase of 41,381 customers against in 2016.
