EVNSPC needs a stronger development strategy

This is one of the requests by Mr. Tran Dinh Nhan - General Director of Vietnam Electricity (EVN) at a meeting with the key leadership of the Southern Power Corporation (EVNSPC) on the production - business, investment – construction situation in the first 4 months of 2020 and plans for the remaining months on 21 May 2020 in Ho Chi Minh City.

According to General Director of EVNSPC Nguyen Phuoc Duc, the commercial power output of EVNSPC in the first four months of 2020 reached more than 24.11 billion kWh, an increase of 4.63% compared to that of the same period in 2019. Due to the impact of COVID-19 pandemic, the commercial power production of EVN’s member companies has not increased much compared to that of the same period in 2019.

Regarding the construction investment, the Corporation has commenced 5/72 works and energized 2/56 electrical works of 110 - 220kV. Regarding the development of rooftop solar power, as of 18 May 2020, there were 3,303 customers installing a total capacity of installed solar panels of about 111MWp (32% of EVN's plan in the year). The power output generated from these systems on the accumulated grids by April 2020 reached 71.24 million kWh.

Some production and business targets of EVNSPC in 2020:

• Commercial power: 77.05 billion kWh, an increase of 6.02% compared to the estimated plan in 2019.

• Power supply reliability: SAIDI 306 minutes, SAIFI 5.27 times, MAIFI 2.0 times.

• Access-to-electricity index: Strive to rank at least from 24/190 countries, economies in the world and maintain position in ASEAN 4

• Labor productivity: By the commercial power: 3.83 million kWh/person; By customer: 429 customers/person.

The General Director requires EVNSPC to promptly take initiative in ensuring an adequate supply of power to the South and have a stronger development strategy, becoming a major power unit in the region.

The General Director asked EVNSPC to synchronously implement solutions to ensure safe and stable power supply to customers; disseminate specific solutions to save electricity, encourage people to install and use rooftop solar power, develop load-regulating scenarios to deploy it in necessary cases, etc. In addition, EVNSPC should continue to accelerate the installation of electronic meters and distance-reading systems; review and enhance the safety assurance of medium and low voltage grids, especially during high tide; improve SAIDI, etc.
