EVNSPC survey the power grid in Tho Chu island (Kien Giang province)

From 26 to 28 February 2020, Mr. Nguyen Van Hop – Chairman of Member Board of Southern Power Corporation (EVNSPC) and the delegation conducted a field surveying to prepare for implementing and receiving the power grid in Tho Chu island (Kien Giang province).

Currently, there are totally 483 power-using households on the island. The power grid on the island has been energized by 04 diesel generators, with a total capacity of 1,668kVA, which are managed by the local authority. In addition, there are some small generators of military and telecommunication stations, with a total capacity of 1,200kVA. The total power output generated in 2019 was over 1.63 million kWh. In 2020, it is expected that the power generated output will be equal to 2019’s.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hop – Chairman of Member Board of EVNSPC said that the diesel generators on the island is designed with small capacity and have been deteriorated and been in overloaded operation. There is only has a low-voltage power line with long radius, great losses, and low power supply reliability; the power grid does not cover all over the island, hence, many places are not yet energized.

The power using demand in Tho Chu island is becoming increasingly higher. According to the leader of EVNSPC, after receiving the power line, it is required to invest and synchronize generators and power lines to meet the technical standards of Electricity sector in order to ensure the safety and stability of power supply, serving the socio-economic development, national defense and security in the locality.

Besides, Chairman of EVNSPC Member Board also expressed the desire that the authorities, military units and people on the island should consent and support the power  units in receiving and building the power lines on the island, contributing to promoting the economic development and maintaining the sovereignty security over Vietnam's sea and islands.

On the occasion of the field trip on Tho Chu Island, the delegation visited and donated the solar energy system to Military Regiment 152 stationed on The island; donated electric water heaters to Tho Chu Preschool and Secondary school as well as gave gifts to families of policy and poor-but-studious students on the island.
