EVN’s symposium on digital substations

On October 4, in Hanoi, Vice President of Vietnam Electricity (EVN) - Mr. Nguyen Tai Anh, chaired a symposium on digital substations.

According to the report of EVN's Investment Management Department, on May 26, 2020, the EVN Board of Directors issued Resolution No. 273/NQ-HDTV on the application of new digital substation technology in the investment and construction of 110kV and 220kV substations. After that, EVN issued Documents No. 5269/EVN-DT dated August 5, 2020 and 6225/EVN-DT dated September 16, 2020 approving a list of substations where digital substation technology will be piloted, providing guidance and requesting member organizations’ implementation.

The symposium was held in an online format, connected to Power Corporations and consulting companies under EVN.

Up to now, EVNNPT has completed Thuy Nguyen 220kV Substation (Hai Phong). This substation is operating safely and reliably. Power Corporations have also deployed 11 110kV substations, of which a number of projects have been completed, some will be completed in the period from now to 2024.

The leader of EVN said that, during the pilot implementation, there should be reviews and orientation instructions to work out adjustments on a timely basis. The EVN leader asked member organizations to take the initiative to select more substations for pilot implementation, possibly building a new digital substation or uprating an existing substation. In addition, the specialized departments of EVN should coordinate with consulting companies to further modify the standard design to put into the codes, at the same time the piloting of digital substations needs to be justified in terms of investment efficiency.
