In Hanoi, the lights - off event in response to Earth Hour 2018 taking place at the August Revolution Square in Hoan Kiem District was broadcasted live on VTV1 - Vietnam Television.
The response to Earth Hour 2018 campaign has affirmed efforts of Vietnamese people in their commitments to protecting the environment, saving and efficiently using energy for present and future, confirming that Viet Nam wishes to build a green economy and sustainable development.
With the theme "Go More Green", over the past month, provinces and cities across the country have responded very aggressively to the Campaign with a variety of exciting, diverse and meaningful activities.
At 20h30 on March 24, 2018, leaders of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, People's Committee of Hanoi, Vietnam Electricity and delegates performed the lights – off symbolic action in response to the Earth Hour 2018 campaign. This was the main event, expressing the persistent message of Earth Hour campaign in order to extensively and intensively disseminate the message to more than 90 million people on this meaningful campaign.
In Ho Chi Minh City, thousands of people gathered at the Youth Cultural House, 04 Pham Ngoc Thach, District 1, responding to the Earth Hour campaign. At 8h30, high buildings, cafes, shopping malls, etc. in the city concurrently turned off the lights and minimized the use of electrical equipment.
In Can Tho City, Can Tho Power Company in collaboration with the Department of Industry and Trade and Youth Union of the City held the Earth Hour 2018 at Luu Huu Phuoc park, Ninh Kieu district. The program attracted more than 1,500 union members, young people and many people.
Also on March 24, 2018, Can Tho Power Company planted 100 star trees in Nguyen Van Linh road, Ninh Kieu district; installing 10 exercise bikes generating electricity for the public lighting system in Cai Rang district, etc.
Since its start in 2017, the Earth Hour has become one of the most influential environmental protection and energy conservation events in the world. There are currently 187 countries and territories with around 7,000 cities and billions of people around the world joining and responding to this event.
Vietnam has joined the Earth Hour since 2009; and Vietnam Electricity has been participated in the campaign as a main sponsor for 10 consecutive years.
