Government assigns Vietnam Electricity to take over BOT power plants of Phu My 3 and Phu My 2.2

​​​​​​​In the document No. 1223/TTg-KTTH dated 25 November 2023, Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai assigned Vietnam Electricity to take over, operate, trade, maintain, and preserve the BOT power plants of Phu My 3 and Phu My 2.2.

Also in document No. 1223/TTg-KTTH, the Deputy Prime Minister also assigned the Ministry of Industry and Trade to sponsor and coordinate with EVN and relevant agencies to implement the transfer and take-over of the BOT power plants of Phu My 3 and Phu My 2.2 in accordance with the provisions of Decree 35/2021/ND-CP dated 29 March 2021 of the Government and relevant legal regulations; Ensuring timely, strict, safe, effective and continuous operation of the two plants, ensuring electricity supply to serve production, business and people's daily activities.

Phu My 3 BOT Thermal Power Plant (Ba Ria - Vung Tau) is invested by Sembcorp, Kyuden International Corporation, and Sojitz Corporation. The contracted capacity of the plant is a scale of 716.8MW. The project contract and BOT contract were signed by the Ministry of Industry (now the Ministry of Industry and Trade) with the investor - BOT Company on 22 May 2001. The plant began commercial operation on 1 March 2004 with a term of 20 years and was transferred without compensation to the Vietnamese side on 1 March 2024 after the end of the contract period.

Phu My 2.2 BOT Project (Ba Ria Vung Tau) with a capacity of 715MW is invested by EDFI, Summit Global Management II B.V and TEPCI. The BOT contract was signed on 18 September 2001 and operated in 2005. February 4, 2025, is the deadline for transfer to the Vietnamese side after the 20-year contract expires.
