Accordingly, the general target is greenhouse gas emissions reduction in the energy sector and industrial processes under the management of the Ministry of Industry and Trade to implement the greenhouse gas emission reduction target in line with Vietnam's Nationally Determined Contribution and the Methane Emission Reduction Action Plan by 2030, contributing to the target of net zero emissions by 2050.
Measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the energy sector and industrial processes to achieve the target by 2030 in line with the Nationally Determined Contribution updated in 2022 and the National Strategy on Climate Change for the period up to 2050, including the following measures:
Group of measures for industrial production: Recovering energy from waste heat, optimizing the combustion process, using high-efficiency equipment such as boilers, lighting, air compressors, electric motors, pumping systems, installing converters for production lines, implementing energy management systems.
Group of measures for the household and commercial service sector: Using high-efficiency electrical equipment such as air conditioners, and refrigeration equipment, using energy-saving lighting, applying solar water heaters, using cleaner fuels for cooking.
Group of measures for the energy industry: Developing renewable energy power plants such as concentrated solar power systems, rooftop solar power, onshore and nearshore wind power, offshore wind power, hydropower, biomass power, waste-to-energy; developing combined gas turbines using domestic natural gas, developing combined gas turbines using liquefied gas, developing supercritical and ultra-supercritical thermal power technology.
Group of measures for industrial processes and product use: Applying the best technology to reduce emissions in industries such as chemical and steel production, using climate-friendly refrigerants.
Other technical and management measures to help mitigate greenhouse gas emissions in the energy sector and industrial processes.
The potential for greenhouse gas emission reduction in the energy sector and industrial process under the management of the Ministry of Industry and Trade in the period of 2021 - 2030 when greenhouse gas emission reduction measures are effectively and fully implemented by the country itself is expected to reach 358.7 million tons of CO2 equivalent. With international support, it is expected to reach 1,462.7 million tons of CO2 equivalent.
