Attending the seminar were Mr. Tomoyuki Mambo - General Director of JERA Vietnam Energy Co., Ltd; Mr. Ryohei Irisa - Chief Representative of Mitsubishi Power in Hanoi; Ms. Jang Yu Jung - Chief Representative of KEPCO in Hanoi.
The main video point of the seminar at EVN headquarters (Hanoi)
EVN Vice President Ngo Son Hai said that at the UN climate change summit in 2021 (COP-26), the Vietnamese Government made a strong commitment to being carbon neutral by 2050. This goal poses huge challenges for Vietnam's energy sector, especially the electricity industry, while ensuring energy security, providing a stable power source for economic-society development, fulfilling commitments to cut CO2 emissions, and meeting affordable electricity prices.
To achieve that goal, Vietnam Electricity has programs to transform and improve the operational efficiency of power plants in general and thermal power plants in particular; while reducing carbon emissions. Therefore, EVN wishes to receive technical support and international experience in the process of improving the quality of EVN's operations, digital transformation, and energy transition in the coming time.
At the seminar, the delegates listened to information about the overview of Vietnam's power system and the trial of biomass fuel combustion at Ninh Binh Thermal Power Plant.
The delegates also spent a lot of time exchanging and discussing with businesses about such issues as digital transformation solutions for power plants; new generation gas turbine products; JERA's decarbonization strategy and ammonia production cycle; techniques for mixing biomass and ammonia for coal-fired power plants; combined hydrogen combustion technique for LNG gas power plant.
