MOIT of Vietnam in cooperation with the EU Delegation in Vietnam to organize policy dialogue regarding green energy development
Policy dialogue will be an annual activity from now until 2020 – as a part of the Government’s commitment to transparency in public finance; raise the efficiency of electricity industry with the aim of performing stable and reliable power supply; attract new investors into the industry, especially for renewable energy development.
The Government of Vietnam has committed to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 8% compared to conventional development scenario by 2030 and may reduce by 25% if Vietnam receives international support from bilateral and multilateral partner organizations. Therefore, mitigating greenhouse gas emissions will focus on energy efficiency field and improve renewable energy ratio.
At the dialogue, Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh and Mr. Bruno Angelet - Ambassador, Chief Representative of EU Delegation to Vietnam shared about progress made, directions for sustainable energy development in Vietnam and discuss about additional assistances of EU for the energy sector.
Ambassador Bruno Angelet said that EU has coordinated with relevant ministries and branches of Vietnam towards building a modern electricity market, reducing emissions, helping Vietnam replace brown energy with green energy so as for the country to develop more sustainably.
Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh affirmed that Vietnam aims to complete the competitive electricity market, creating the foundation for sustainable and modern development. Developing green energy is an indispensable trend in the world. Vietnam will continue to adjust and build up a new energy master plan until 2020 (Power Plan VIII) to ensure the feasibility of cooperation between the two parties.
Viet Nam always gives priority to the efficient use of energy and towards using sustainable energy, green energy, etc. In fact, over the years, Law on energy efficiency has been implemented and brought good outcomes for the economy, however, it is expected to receive strong determination from the Government and cooperation from EU in the coming time to create a wider spreading to the economy.
EU has pledged to support 108 million euros for reforming Vietnam’s energy sector. The objective of the program is to enhance the access to sustainable energy in rural, mountainous and island areas of Vietnam and to contribute to building a more sustainable energy sector by promoting energy efficiency, clean and renewable energy.
