Management of offshore wind power and its supply chain

That was the theme of the workshop held by the Institute of Energy (Ministry of Industry and Trade) in collaboration with Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Project (4E Project) on 27 April, 2021, in Hanoi.

The workshop attracted a large number of delegates in the wind power sector to attend

The workshop provided information on how to organize and implement logistics of enterprises in the offshore wind power sector, as well as on management of its industrial supply chain.

According to Director of the Institute of Energy Tran Ky Phuc, Vietnam's offshore wind energy in the period up to 2045 is expected to reach about 20GW. However, state management agencies, consultants as well as investors are facing many difficulties in the management, design and logistics services in the process of applying for project approval.

Senior Advisor of Renewable Energy at the Institute of Energy Henri Wasnick said that offshore wind power has a potential key role in Vietnam's energy transition, especially in implementing of the goals for CO2 reduction, energy security and socio-economic development. A sustainable domestic supply chain will provide a great opportunity to reduce energy costs and develop an autonomous export industry for a number of specialized sectors.

Other renewable energy resources such as solar energy, bioenergy, ... wind energy have a great contribution to supporting Vietnam to realize its dual goals, both reducing greenhouse gas emissions and ensuring sustainable energy supply.

Wind power projects are expected to explode in the coming years, requiring an upgrade in supply chain and logistics management for wind power projects in general, and offshore wind power projects in particular. This will help to reduce delays in project implementation and make project roadmap planning more effective.

At the workshop, the guests discussed the risks in the logistics and offshore wind power supply chain. Various risk management measures have been proposed to be implemented, especially for the operation and transportation of heavy offshore goods.

The workshop focused on technical requirements in developing fixed and floating foundation wind power market. In addition, practical experiences when entering new markets are also proposed for Vietnam, in order to solve outstanding problems in the industry.
