More than 97,000 EVN employees to make utmost efforts to complete the tasks in 2024

On December 20, in Hanoi, Mr. Dang Hoang An - Chairman of EVN's Board of Directors attended and delivered a speech at the Conference summarizing the work performance in 2023 and implementing tasks in 2024 of the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT). EVN leaders affirmed that more than 97,000 EVN employees have been making every effort to complete their assigned tasks.

Chairman Dang Hoang An said that 2023 would be a very difficult year for EVN, especially with the stressful power supply at the end of May and the first half of June. Besides, difficulties in financial balance from the years 2022-2023 would also somewhat affect the thoughts and feelings of employees. Therefore, EVN looks forward to receiving the sharing from leaders of the Government, ministries, branches, and localities.

According to EVN’s Chairman of the Board of Directors Dang Hoang An, in 2023, commercial electricity growth is estimated to reach 4.6%. In particular, although construction investment is very difficult, EVN has completed a very large amount of investment, about VND 91,000 billion. The Group has started 146 projects and energized 163 power grid projects from 110-500kV. Among them, there is a very important project, the 500kV circuit 3 line from Quang Trach to Pho Noi with a length of 525km, divided into 4 component projects, the total investment of more than VND 23,000 billion, 219 bidding packages completed in just 4 months. Currently, construction is underway on the first line of Nam Dinh 1 - Thanh Hoa Thermal Power Plant, and by mid-January 2024, commencements will be performed simultaneously on the entire route.

The Chairman of EVN's Board of Directors emphasized that these results were achieved thanks to the drastic direction of the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha, Minister of MOIT with close coordination among the Ministry of Planning & Investment, Ministry of Natural Resources & Environment, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Government Office, localities, and so on.

For 2024, Chairman Dang Hoang An said, EVN is focusing on the political task of ensuring power supply. EVN is preparing for a high-growth scenario. Specifically, according to the report of MOIT, with GDP increasing by 6-6.5%, the electricity growth rate is 9.4-9.8%. Under the direct direction of Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha, Minister of MOIT, EVN has prepared scenarios for each month, focusing on important solutions such as completing the repair of all plants, storing water in hydropower reservoirs, especially hydropower in the North, etc. However, EVN currently only holds 37.7% of the total installed capacity of the power system, PVN accounts for 8%, TKV accounts for 2%, and belongs to investors and other economic sectors. Therefore, MOIT, and the Electricity Regulatory Authority directly, need to closely follow the power supply plan approved by the Minister to urge plant owners to maintain maximum reliability in system operation.

"In particular, local leaders need to promote electricity and energy saving to become a reality. This is the cheapest and most economical solution to increase power supply for the economy," Mr. Dang Hoang An proposed.

EVN leaders added that one of EVN's big targets in 2024 is the construction investment, with a total expected investment capital of about VND 102,000 billion, an increase of over VND 10,000 billion compared to that in 2023. The needs of local socio-economic development depend heavily on investment projects to build electrical infrastructure. In fact, during the construction investment process, there will be many obstacles such as investment approval procedures, route alignment, and site clearance. Therefore, we hope that localities will support and create favorable conditions for the fastest handling of obstacles to complete the projects. At the same time, if there is power demand for industrial parks and industrial clusters, localities need to soon inform the electricity industry to plan investment.

According to a report by MOIT at the conference, the total electricity output produced and imported across the entire electricity system in 2023 is estimated at 280.1 billion kWh, increasing by 4.6% over the same period in 2022, reaching 98.45% compared to that in the approved 2023 plan. Basically, the load is performed closely following the 2023 plan as approved by the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
