Opening Vietnam Smart Grid Week 2019

On December 2, 2019, Vietnam Smart Grid Week 2019 co-organized by the Electricity Regulatory Authority of Vietnam (Ministry of Industry and Trade) and the German Development Cooperation Agency (GIZ) was opened in Hanoi.

Leaders of the Electricity Regulatory Authority of Vietnam and representatives of the German Embassy in Vietnam at the opening session

In the opening remarks, Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan - Director of Electricity Regulatory Authority of Vietnam said: Vietnam has implemented the Smart Grid Development Project for nearly 7 years and achieved some positive results. In particular, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has issued a set of criteria to evaluate the development of Vietnam's power industry, and approved the Master Plan for Smart Grid Development in Vietnam. The power industry has gradually applied advanced technologies in the power system, making a significant contribution to the safe, stable and reliable operation of the national power system.

In recent years, efforts of state management agencies and power corporations have contributed to improving the reliability of electricity supply, quality of electricity, optimizing the operation of the power system, improving labor productivity, and promoting the development of renewable energy sources.

Mr. Sebastian Paust - Head of Development Cooperation, Embassy of Germany in Vietnam emphasized: “In 2019, Vietnam has experienced an impressive growth of renewable energy sources in the power generation mix. However, in order to reach a higher proportion, many solutions need to be implemented. In Germany, the electricity output generated from renewable energy sources accounts for nearly half of the total electricity output, mostly from wind and solar. Therefore, at Vietnam Smart Grid Week 2019, we look forward to creating opportunities for exchanging international experience in the implementation of technical and technological solutions to support raising the proportion of solar power and wind power in Vietnam."

Taking place from December 2 to 5, 2019, Vietnam Smart Grid Week 2019 is a forum for domestic and international experts to discuss trends on energy technology development, practices applicable for smart grid development in Vietnam and other countries in the world.

At the same time, the event aims at promoting the deployment of smart grid technology and applications for renewable energy development and efficient energy use; building a smart grid community network in Vietnam and enhancing technology cooperation and links with other countries.

In addition to the opening session, in the Week, there were workshops with many topics such as: power system technology initiatives, operation of power systems with a large proportion of renewable energy sources, technology initiatives and ideas about the future energy, realization of the Smart Grid with legal regulations, Internet applications in the grid, etc.
