Promoting renewable energy development in Central Region

Developing renewable energy is one of the solutions on connecting industries and fields for the Central Region to bring into full play its potential, advantages, breakthrough and sustainable development in accordance with Directive No. 27/CT-TTg dated 19 November 2019 of the Prime Minister.

Specifically, the Directive clearly states that one of the four main goals of the provinces and cities in this region is to develop 5 economic pillars including: Fisheries, focusing on fishing, aquaculture, aquatic and seafood processing; Tourism, especially sea and island tourism, and exploiting the region’s tourism strengths; Seaports and logistics services; Developing manufacturing and processing industries associating with advantages of seaport; Renewable energy: wind, solar power and researching on other types of energy

In the group of solutions for connecting industries and sectors, the Government leaders asked the Ministry of Industry and Trade to prioritize developing the network of logistics centers in the region, taking advantage of the geographical position, near the supply of goods such as industrial parks, port systems and consumers; support and create conditions for provinces and cities with potentials for developing renewable energy (wind and solar power).

On the side of Vietnam Electricity, in recent years, the Group has continuously invested in developing on-site power source projects to ensure sufficient power to meet the needs of socio-economic development of these provinces. Specifically, since 2011, 8 projects with a total capacity of 4,306MW have been put into operation. With efficient power generation and trading, these projects have not only met power supply demand but also made a significant contribution to local budgets.

EVN and its subsidiaries are focusing on investing capital in projects of renewable energy sources such as wind and solar power in Quang Tri, Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan provinces.

In line with investing and developing power sources, EVN and the National Power Transmission Corporation have continuously invested in expanding the 500kV-220kV power grid, strengthening the transmission capacity of the entire system and the region of 14 Central coastal provinces and cities in particular. For the distribution grid, EVN’s power corporations have gradually built advanced power grid infrastructure, aiming to develop smart grids in the future.

Many modern scientific and technological achievements have been applied to the operation of the grid, such as: Technology of repair without outage (hotline), hotline porcelain cleaning, using thermal camera, detecting the risk of incident, using system to automatically detect and localize electrical incidents, thereby, minimizing the time of blackout, and improving reliability of power supply to customers. This is an important factor, motivating businesses to be assured in investing, producing and trading, contributing to the development of key economic sectors in the Central region.
