General Director of PV GAS Duong Manh Son said that being fully aware of the responsibility for gas supply to generate power, over the past time, PV GAS had always made attempts to supply gas as much as possible. Accordingly, since Nam Con Son gas pipeline came ashore (2013), the gas demand for generating power has been regularly at high level, so that the total volume of gas mobilization has been higher than underwritten volume.
If gas mobilization continues at such high level in previous year, PV GAS forecasts that there will be insufficient gas supply for BOT Phu My 3 and Phu My 2.2 power plants from mid-2022.
Delegation of PV GAS (right) meeting with EVN
The leaders of PV GAS shared that 06.1, 11.2 gas sources has continued to decline. Although in 2021 - 2022, Vietnam will be able to gain additional output from new gas sources (Sao Vang - Dai Nguyet field), the gas price will be higher than the current ones, affecting the production and business of the power plants.
Facing this situation, PV GAS proposes 2 options of gas supply. One is that, in 2020, PV GAS will only supply in compliance with the contract and reserve 6.1, 11.2 gas sources in the field for the next years. For the other option, in 2020, PV GAS will continue to supply gas with higher output compared to contracted amount, meeting the power generation requirements.
At the meeting, the representatives of BOT Phu My 3 and Phu My 2.2 power plants expressed their concerns in gas quality, as well as gas supply source to ensure adequate fuel for power production.
General Director of EVN Tran Dinh Nhan (rightmost) speaking at meeting
Mr. Nhan suggested that PV GAS attempt to carry out solutions to supply maximum gas volume for generating power right in 2020.
At the same time, he kindly requested PV GAS and BOT power plants to coordinate with EVN to conclude plans on gas supply, gas volumes and prices for power generation in the coming years and report to competent authorities soon.
At the meeting, the leaders of both parties focused on exchanging the plan of importing liquefied natural gas (LNG), soon complement gas supply source to the Southeast region in coming time.
