Prime Minister requests EVN, TKV, and PVN to immediately implement solutions to ensure sufficient power supply

The Government Office has just issued Notice No. 185/TB-VPCP dated May 19, 2023, on the conclusion of the Prime Minister at the meeting on ensuring power supply in the dry season in 2023.

The notice stated that, on May 18, 2023, at the Government Office, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired a meeting on ensuring power supply in the dry season in 2023.

Concluding the meeting, the Prime Minister emphasized that in the early days of the past month, a record-breaking heat wave occurred in many parts of the country and the situation is expected to continue until the coming June. This situation has increased the demand for domestic power consumption, while the water inflow to the hydropower reservoirs is very low, especially in the hydropower reservoirs in the Northern region, which greatly affects the power supply in the dry season of 2023, especially in the period until May 25, 2023, when imported coal sources are slower than demand.

The Prime Minister requested the Chairmen, the Presidents and CEOs of Groups: Vietnam Electricity (EVN), Vietnam Coal and Mineral Industries Group (TKV), Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PVN), and Dong Bac Corporation, based on its assigned functions and tasks, to immediately implement necessary solutions to ensure sufficient power supply, especially in the short-term and regional difficult period until May 25, 2023.

The Prime Minister requested EVN to implement appropriate solutions to most effectively exploit hydropower sources for the overall benefit of the country; urgently complete negotiations with investors of wind power and solar power projects that have completed construction investment and met the prescribed conditions to make it possible to immediately generate power into the national power system; enhancing energy saving.

The Prime Minister requested Vietnam Oil and Gas Group to take responsibility for balancing enough gas and oil for power plants on the basis of EVN's request.

The Prime Minister requested the Minister of Industry and Trade, the Chairman of the Commission for the Management of State Capital at Enterprises, the Chairmen, the Presidents and CEOs of Groups: EVN, TKV, PVN, heads of ministries, branches, and agencies as well as relevant parties are responsible for strictly and fully implementing the conclusions of the Standing Government and the Prime Minister on ensuring safe and reliable power supply as specified in Official Dispatch No. 1813/CD-TTg dated December 24, 2021, of the Prime Minister, Notice No. 108/TB-VPCP dated April 14, 2022, Notice No. 200/TB-VPCP dated July 9, 2022; based on their assigned functions and tasks, proactively and promptly cooperate closely with EVN to successfully complete the assigned tasks.

The Prime Minister assigned Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha to continue directing the next tasks to ensure power supply in the dry season of 2023 and the coming time; Minister of Industry and Trade shall submit to the Prime Minister the Directive on electricity saving and launch of the energy saving movement by May 25, 2023.

The Prime Minister also assigned Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Dang Hoang An to direct and support EVN to perform all the assigned tasks.
