Workers of Con Dao Power Company are maintaining the power grid in the district
Electricity related concerns are relieved
In 2017, Con Dao Power Company has planned to produce approximately 15.2 million kWh, increasing by 8% compared to the year 2016; the power sales of the year is estimated at more than 14 million kWh, rising by 8.3% against that of the last year.
As reflected by tourism enterprises, for the time being the reliability of power supply in the island district is getting more stable. Ms. Tran Thi Phuong, the owner of Thanh Xuan hotel (44 Ton Duc Thang street, Con Dao town) said: Over the recent years, the power supply in the district has been relatively stable, which has helped my business facilities do well and met the electricity demand for residential uses and entertainment activities of tourists when staying in the hotel.
Mr. Ho Phi Thuy, Director of Con Dao Pearl Company Ltd. said: Con Dao Pearl Company Ltd. is specialized in culturing pearls and making gem pearls, 75% of the pearls produced by the Company are exported to the world, etc. Therefore, stable and reliably power supply is essential to the Company. During the past years, the electricity has been supplied stably with appropriate prices, which has enabled the Company to develop our production and business.
The power network continues to be expanded
At present, the medium voltage 22 kV power network of Con Dao district mainly uses bare conductors which are remarkably affected by the sea climate. This situation has led to recurrent discharge incidents and thus sometimes unstable power supply. In addition, diesel generators are not synchronized with each other, consequently electricity supply is interrupted when changing from one power source to another, which causes inadequately power supply in peak hours.
In reality, in 2016, Con Dao Power Company had more than 6 km of two medium voltage power lines covered with insulated materials to avoid salinization and discharge. In 2017, the Company will continue covering the remaining 10 km of power lines. Besides, the Southern Power Corporation (EVNSPC) will implement a solar photovoltaic installation project in Con Dao with capacity of around 1.5 MW (phase 1). The investigation and designing consultant of the Project has been selected, at present functional provincial departments have submitted the Project to the People’s Committee of the province for approval and land acquisition to proceed with further steps. Furthermore, Con Dao Power Company plans to supplement more generators to facilitate expansion of loads, to regularly maintain, repair, overhaul generators according to procedures, at the same time promptly handles incidents to avoid shortage of generation sources; to develop proper generation operating plans suitable for capacity of each generator to optimize generation capacity and reduce input material cost.
Mr. Doan Van Tranh added: “Con Dao Power Company has been performing installation of two transformers with capacity of 1.5 MW per each and with investment cost of nearly VND 30 billion in order to meet the power consumption requirements of tourism enterprises”.
