Promoting energy cooperation between Vietnam and the Russian Federation

The 20th session of the Intergovernmental Committee between Vietnam and the Russian Federation co-chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister of Vietnam Trinh Dinh Dung and the First Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Igor Shuvalov has come up with mutual agreements on a series of major issues, with the aim of promoting the comprehensive strategic partnership of the parties, including energy cooperation area.

The two parties reviewed the implementation of Minutes of Meeting of the 19th Session and discussed measures to strengthen the bilateral cooperation relation in many potential areas between the two countries in the coming time.

Regarding cooperation in the field of energy, the Intergovernmental Committee positively appreciated the operations of Vietnamese - Russian joint ventures in the exploration and exploitation of oil and gas on the continental shelf of Vietnam and in the Russian territory. They agreed that the two governments would continue to create favorable conditions for these joint ventures to maintain their operations effectively, to intensify and expand cooperation in other energy areas and projects.

Both parties agreed to promote cooperation in constructing and upgrading thermal power plants in Vietnam.

Shortly after the session, Deputy Prime Minister of Vietnam Trinh Dinh Dung and First Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Igor Shuvalov signed a Minutes of Meeting of the 20th session. Representatives of ministries, agencies and businesses of the two countries signed many significant cooperation agreements.
