Repair and Condition-based maintenance (CBM) of the power grid block

That is the topic of the Technical Conference organized by EVN on March 12. CBM is called Condition-based maintenance, also known as predictive maintenance. Performing repair and maintenance according to CBM helps the unit scientifically assess the operating status of the equipment, detect defects, and promptly have appropriate treatment plans.

The conference was attended by Deputy Director - Department of Safety Engineering and Industrial Environment Trinh Van Thuan; representative of the Electricity Regulatory Authority, Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT); Leaders and employees of electricity and transmission units in the Group participated in the conference from online stations.
EVN’s Vice Ngo Son Hai chaired the conference.

Continuously improve power supply reliability

Head of EVN Production Technical Department Le Viet Hung said that the Group directed units to implement the Project to reduce power loss in the period 2021-2025; regularly monitor and manage power loss reduction through weekly and monthly meetings, and promptly direct inspection units to handle abnormalities.

As a result, in 2023, all 5 power corporations have achieved and surpassed the assigned targets for power loss from the distribution grid. Throughout the Group, EVN's entire year 2023 power loss is 6.05%, decreasing by 0.10% compared to the year's plan and decreasing by 0.20% compared to 2022’s.

The Group has also paid attention to promoting power grid automation. In 2023, the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT) has completed converting 9 220kV substations to unmanned mode. Thus, up to now, the entire Group has had 99.6% of 220-110kV unmanned transformer stations.

For the distribution sector, the Group evaluates that EVNHCMC and EVNCPC are two units that perform well in power grid automation.

In recent times, units throughout the Group have also made efforts to improve power supply reliability. Many units have good performance results, at EVNNPC, EVNCPC, EVNHANOI, the rate of incidents on the power grid in 2023 has decreased deeply. Notably, the application of CBM is considered one of the key solutions to help units prevent incidents and improve power supply reliability.

Effectiveness of applying CBM method

Performing repair and maintenance according to CBM helps the unit scientifically assess the operating status of the equipment, detect defects, and promptly have appropriate treatment plans contributing to preventing incidents, extending equipment life, and improving power supply reliability.

EVN’s Vice President Ngo Son Hai said that since 2019 EVN has implemented a consulting project on CBM and by the period 2020 - 2021, EVN has directed corporations to issue detailed instructions to apply to the entire distribution and transmission grid.

The Group also proposed that MOIT  allow EVN units to apply advanced repair and maintenance (RCM/CBM) to adjust the testing/inspection cycle of equipment suitable for the condition of electrical system equipment.
