Mr. Nguyen Cuong Lam - EVN Deputy General Director, Mr. Christian Haas – Director of KfW Office in Hanoi, representatives of relevant units of EVN and consultants, i.e. experts from the University of Frankfurt (Germany) attended the seminar.
In his speech at the seminar, Mr. Nguyen Cuong Lam, EVN Deputy General Director said: Currently, EVN is implementing the National Power Development Plan for the period of 2011-2020, with vision to 2030 (Master Plan).
It is predicted in the Master Plan that the total power consumption across Vietnam will grow at 11.1% per year in the period of 2016-2020 and 7.8% per year in the period of 2020-2030. Of which the total capacity of power generation is estimated at 60,000 MW by 2020 and 129,500 MW by 2030.
It is also clearly stated in the Master Plan that renewable energy capacity to be put into operation (excluding the projects already in the list of power generation in the Master Plan and pumped storage power plant projects, etc.) for the period of 2016-2020 is 2,060 MW, for the period of 2021-2025 is 5,990 MW and for the period of 2026-2030 is 15,190 MW.

The research, development and construction of renewable energy projects will be one of the positive conditions for Vietnam to ensure the enforcement of criteria on emissions that Vietnam pledged at the last COP 21. In addition, the development of renewable energy will contribute to increase a green power source for the country.
"Currently EVN has signed contracts for 6 projects, totaled at EUR 527 million with KfW and is arranging the capital for about 10 projects at over EUR 1 billion. Phu Lac 1 wind power project of 24 MW in capacity is the first wind power project financed by KfW and shall be put into commercial operation in September 2016. I believe that this seminar will be a good opportunity for the participants of EVN units to exchange experience, update information and learn from experience of KfW", stressed EVN Deputy General Director Nguyen Cuong Lam.
Mr. Christian Haas – Director of KfW Office in Hanoi shared that clean energy would be the main energy source for the globe in the coming time. KfW appreciated the efforts made by the Government of Vietnam when putting renewable energy development into its development strategy. At this seminar, Mr. Christian Haas hoped to discuss with EVN and find out the way of developing renewable energy that would be of mutual benefits for both parties.
At the seminar, the participants listened to a presentation by EVN representatives on the overview of renewable energy and the investment needs of EVN. The consultants - experts from Frankfurt University presented the pros and cons of each type of renewable energy and shared their international experience in the field of renewable energy. KfW’s representative presented about forms of implementing renewable energy projects that can be cooperated with EVN and some projects already implemented by KfW in other countries.
