Son La Hydropower Plant, having 6 power units with a total installed capacity of 2,400MW, fully meets the criteria of a black-start power plant as specified in the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s Circular No. 22/2017/TT-BCT. Therefore, at Decision No. 140/QD-EVN dated February 20, 2023, of Vietnam Electricity on the issuance of a plan to black start and restore the national power system in 2023, Son La Hydropower Plant has been selected to black start and restore the A1.2 array.

During the rehearsal program, the equipment block of unit H4-T4 and 500kV equipment met operating conditions when closing the electric pulse for a long power line, ensuring the black start time; voltage and frequency parameters are maintained within the allowable limits as prescribed in Circular No.22/2017/TT-BCT.

According to Mr. Nguyen Huy Phuoc - Deputy Head of the Load Dispatch Department, the National Load Dispatch Center, the black-start rehearsal of Son La Hydropower Company has been carefully prepared. This is also the first time that electrical impulse closure has been performed for a long transmission line with a voltage of 500kV, which is very important to the power system, ensuring that the power system can be restored when there is a breakdown of the grid.
The successful implementation of the black-start rehearsal program at Son La Power Plant is an affirmation that Son La Power Plant has always been well prepared in terms of equipment as well as the troubleshooting skills of its operators.
