The Ministry of Industry and Trade issued Decision No. 363/QD-BCT dated February 28, 2026 approving the Revised National Energy Master Plan for the 2021 - 2030 period, with a vision to 2050.

The revised master plan covers sub-sectors including oil and gas, coal, electricity, new energy, and renewable energy, with contents ranging from basic surveys, exploration, extraction, production, storage, distribution to energy use. For the coal sector, the plan focuses on supply–demand forecasting and the development of infrastructure serving production, processing, transportation, storage, and import-export activities.

According to the Decision, energy development must be aligned with the socio-economic development strategy, ensuring a sustainable energy system that develops ahead of demand, diversifies supply sources, and meets the requirements of industrialization, modernization, and the trends of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. At the same time, it aims to efficiently exploit and utilize domestic energy resources, combined with reasonable imports to ensure national energy security.

The plan also orients the development of a competitive energy market, diversification of ownership and business models, gradual elimination of subsidies, and movement toward a market-based energy pricing mechanism.
