EVNGENCO2 and CSG-LMI sign Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in developing pumped storage hydropower projects

On the afternoon of May 8, 2025, at the headquarters of Power Generation Corporation No. 2 (EVNGENCO2) in Can Tho City, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between EVNGENCO2 and Lan Thương – Mekong International Co., Ltd. (CSG-LMI), a subsidiary of China Southern Power Grid (CSG), to cooperate in the development of pumped storage hydropower projects in Vietnam.

The signing ceremony marks a new milestone in the collaborative relationship between EVNGENCO2 and CSG-LMI, which has taken over the cooperation role previously held by CSGI-HK.

 

In attendance from CSG-LMI were Mr. Gan Lin – Chairman; Mr. Cheng Jun – Vice President; Mr. Li Zhixiong – Chairman of the Vietnam–China Power Investment Company (VCP); along with members and representatives from the CSG-LMI Vietnam Office.

Representing EVNGENCO2 were Mr. Tran Phu Thai – Chairman of the Board of Directors; Mr. Tran Ly – Member of the Board; Mr. Le Quoc Vu – Vice President; as well as representatives from the Office and functional departments of EVNGENCO2, and executives from A Vuong Hydropower Joint Stock Company.

During the meeting, both parties reviewed and agreed on the content of the MoU and discussed their cooperation direction, focusing on developing pumped storage hydropower projects – an effective energy storage solution that helps balance the power system and promote the growth of renewable energy.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Tran Phu Thai, Chairman of the Board of Directors of EVNGENCO2, emphasized: “Signing this MoU with CSG-LMI is a strategic move by EVNGENCO2 in pursuing sustainable energy development. It opens up significant opportunities for deeper cooperation with experienced international partners in the field of pumped storage hydropower.”

Also at the ceremony, Mr. Gan Lin – Chairman of CSG-LMI – expressed confidence in the potential collaboration between the two sides and affirmed CSG-LMI’s commitment to working closely with EVNGENCO2 to implement effective projects that contribute to the advancement of the Vietnamese power sector and the broader region.

The signing ceremony took place in a formal and cordial atmosphere, laying the groundwork for future cooperation between EVNGENCO2 and CSG-LMI in developing pumped storage hydropower, enhancing energy efficiency, and improving power plant operations. These efforts align with EVNGENCO2’s direction toward clean, environmentally friendly energy development and safe, economical plant operations.
