The inauguration and signboarding ceremonies for the projects commemorating the 1st Congress of the Party Committee of the Government and the 4th Congress of the Party Committee of Vietnam Electricity (EVN) were organized by the Northern Power Corporation (EVNNPC) on the morning of July 24 in Diem Thuy Commune, Thai Nguyen Province.

Thai Nguyen Province is a key industrial hub in the North, home to several major industrial zones such as Pho Yen, Song Cong, and Phu Binh. From 2021 to 2023, the province recorded an average annual power load growth rate of 5.73%. With a strong wave of incoming investment, the province's total registered power capacity is expected to reach nearly 500MW during the 2024-2026 period.

In response to this urgent demand, EVNNPC was assigned by EVN to implement the  Phu Binh 2 220kV Substation project and the Phu Binh 2-Thai Nguyen-Bac Giang 220kV transmission line, aiming to promptly meet the electricity needs of this critical area. At the same time, to ensure efficient utilization of the substation’s capacity, EVNNPC also simultaneously implemented the construction of four 110kV feeder lines connected to the  Phu Binh 2 220kV Substation.

Delegates install project signboards for Phu Binh 2 220kV Substation and Phu Binh 2-Thai Nguyen-Bac Giang 220kV transmission line project.

The Phu Binh 2 220kV Substation and the Phu Binh 2-Thai Nguyen-Bac Giang 220kV transmission line project have a total investment cost of over VND 559.2 billion, with a scale of three 250MVA transformers. In the first phase, two transformers have been installed. Additionally, 9.16 kilometers of new double-circuit 220kV transmission lines have been constructed and connected to the Thai Nguyen-Bac Giang transmission line.

The Northern Power Corporation (EVNNPC) simultaneously implemented the project "Four 110kV feeder lines from Phu Binh 2 220kV Substation" with a total investment cost of over VND 170 billion. These lines use AC400 conductors, with a total route length of approximately 8.7km. In addition, over 1.1km of existing 22kV double-circuit lines have been relocated underground to clear space and corridors for the 110kV transmission lines.

The project aims to release capacity for the newly constructed Phu Binh 2 220kV substation, reduce load on existing substations, create loop connections, enhance power supply reliability, and meet the growing electricity demand in surrounding areas. The project aligns with the Thai Nguyen Provincial Planning for 2021-2030, vision to 2050, as approved by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 222/QD-TTg dated March 14, 2023.

All of these projects have been put into stable operation since June, contributing to the timely load release for Thai Nguyen’s key industrial zones and serving as a driving force for economic development in the Northern midland and mountainous region.

Comrade Nguyen Huu Tuan - Standing Deputy Secretary of EVN Party Committee - presents Certificates of Merit to collectives with outstanding achievements in investment and construction of key projects in celebration of Party Congresses at all levels.

The two projects, completed synchronously, not only helped resolve transmission bottlenecks in Thai Nguyen province but also affirmed the resolute, decisive, and effective leadership of Party Committees at all levels within the power sector. This milestone represents the successful implementation of political tasks closely tied to the goal of ensuring national energy security. At the same time, it reflects the strategic vision and flexible, effective execution capacity of the Northern Power Corporation (EVNNPC) during a period of strong transformation toward the modernization of transmission and distribution grids in a smart and sustainable direction.
