National grid reaches last “electricity-deprived area” in Bao Yen Commune

Recently, the project to supply electricity to the Cao Lan residential cluster, Hamlet 3 Thau, Bao Yen Commune (Lao Cai Province), was energized just before the Lunar New Year 2026, enabling 100% of households in the commune to access the national power grid.

The area is home to 22 households with 77 residents, mainly from the Dao ethnic group, who have been stably living there since the 1970s.
To supply electricity to the community, the construction unit connected the power source from pole VT40 of the Bao Yen – Viet Tien 35kV transmission line, crossing the Chay River. The project includes 664 meters of 35kV medium-voltage line, over 1km of 0.4kV low-voltage line, and the installation of a new distribution substation. The total investment amounts to VND 2.4 billion, funded by the National target program for socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas (2021–2025), with the commune People’s Committee acting as the investor.

After energization, the managing unit continues to coordinate with local authorities to raise awareness and guide residents on safe, economical, and efficient electricity use.

Not only Cao Lan, but the pre-Lunar New Year 2026 energization is part of a province-wide peak campaign to expand electricity access. From 23 January to 12 February 2026, Lao Cai Power Company completed acceptance, connection, and commissioning of 30 distribution substations across various areas.

Among them, newly commissioned substations in Che Tao Commune—including Pu Va, Ta Sung, Ke Ca, Hang Sung, Hu Chi Linh, and Hang Tay—have supplied electricity to 437 customers. In Tan Hop Commune, two distribution substations, Ba Khuy and Ba Khuy 1, provided electricity to 72 households. Thus, during this peak period before Lunar New Year alone, an additional 509 customers have gained access to the national grid.
