Completing the installation of the third transformer, increasing the total capacity of the Muong Te 220kV Substation to 750MVA, not only helps to optimally release the capacity of hydropower plants in Lai Chau, strengthen grid connectivity, and ensure stable power supply for the Northwest region, but also contributes to improving the efficiency of the national power transmission system, promoting local socio-economic development.

On the evening of 29 October 2025, the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT) and the Power Transmission Project Management Board (NPTPMB), in coordination with relevant units, energized the project to install the third 220kV transformer at the Muong Te 220kV Substation (Lai Chau province). The newly installed transformer has a capacity of 250MVA. The project also adds equipment for the 220kV and 110kV feeders, along with a control, protection, measurement, communication, and SCADA system that meets the standards of Vietnam Electricity (EVN) and EVNNPT.

The project commenced on June 30, 2025, with energization planned for the second quarter of 2026. However, considering the project’s urgency, EVN has set the completion deadline for October 2025.
