Participating and directly directing and supervising the rotor installation process at the construction site, on behalf of Vietnam Electricity, there were: Chairman of the Board of Directors of EVN Dang Hoang An, Vice President of EVN Pham Hong Phuong, representatives of EVN's professional departments, and Director of Power Project Management Board 1 (EVNPMB1) Bui Phuong Nam.
Witnessing the event were many leaders, officers, engineers, and workers of construction, installation, and supervision consulting units working at the construction site.

Rotor of Unit 2 of Hoa Binh Hydropower Extension Project weighs about 585 tons.
According to Power Project Management Board No. 1, the rotor of Unit 2 weighs approximately 585 tons, with a diameter of 11.24 meters and a height of 2.50 meters. It belongs to the category of oversized and overweight equipment, requiring a specialized installation process.
The entire assembly, alignment, and installation process is carried out under strict technical supervision, utilizing a high-capacity lifting system with a load capacity of 900 tons, along with counterweight balancing equipment and other specialized tools. At the same time, it requires close and smooth coordination between the forces participating in the project.
Previously, the rotor of Unit 1 was successfully installed on July 6, 2025, and the unit was synchronized to the grid on August 19, 2025.

Mr. Bui Phuong Nam, Director of EVNPMB1, stated that with the successful installation of the rotor for Unit 2, approximately 90% of the project’s total workload has now been completed. In the coming period, the construction site will focus on aligning the generating unit and conducting tests to ensure that Unit No.2 is commissioned in November and the entire project is completed by 2025.
The Hoa Binh Hydropower Expansion Project is located on the right bank of the existing Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant dam. The plant is located in Hoa Binh Ward, and the intake and approach canal are situated in Thong Nhat Ward, Phu Tho Province. The Hoa Binh Hydropower Expansion Plant will share the reservoir, intake dam, and spillway with the current Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant. The new construction includes the following items: headrace channel, intake structure, water conveyance tunnel, and powerhouse.

After the project is completed and put into operation, it will increase the ability to generate peak power for the national power system, creating conditions for maximum exploitation of the excess water discharged annually during the flood season from the existing Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant to generate electricity. At the same time, it enhances the frequency regulation capability and stability of the national power system, thereby contributing to a reduction in overall system costs. The expansion project also helps reduce the operating intensity of the existing generators, thereby extending the equipment’s lifespan and saving on maintenance and repair costs.
