A number of projects on releasing renewable energy capacity completed by EVN ahead of schedule

With the spirit of urgency, focusing all resources and solutions on accelerating the progress of power grid projects, Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) has completed a number of projects on releasing the renewable energy capacity ahead of schedule in the Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan region. Along with that, EVN also proactively proposes to supplement the planning for a number of power projects with the goal of fully releasing renewable energy sources in 2020.

The project of raising the capacity of Thap Cham 220kV station (Ninh Thuan) has just been completed and put into operation by the end of October 2019.

Up to now, the works have been supplemented planning by the Prime Minister in Document 1891/TTg-CN dated 27 Oct 2018 such as: Raising the capacity of 220kV Thap Cham station; adding a second transformer at Ham Tan; building 220kV Phan Ri substation with connecting lines; building 220kV Ninh Phuoc substation with connecting lines; raising the capacity of  Vinh Tan, Di Linh 500kV substation, etc., are all directly implemented by EVN’s member units ahead of schedule.

In particular, the project of raising the capacity of 220kV Thap Cham substation was energized in Oct 2019, one year ahead of schedule; the project of building the second transformer of 02 220kV Ham Tan substations finished 2 months ahead of the approved schedule.

However, the above 220kV grid works are calculated to release the approved renewable energy capacity as of August 2018. Meanwhile, from August 2018 – December 2018, more RE plants were added to the planning, filling and overloading some 110kV and 220kV substation lines in Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan.

Therefore, in order to enhance the capacity of the transmission grid and fully release the capacity of RE sources that have been put into operation before June 30th, 2019 in Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan provinces in 2020, EVN actively reported and requested the Ministry of Industry and Trade to submit to the Prime Minister for approving the adjustment and supplementation of a number of projects.

Specifically, adjusting the scale of 220kV Phuoc Thai substation capacity from 250MVA to 625MVA, assigning EVN as the project investor, striving to complete it in 2020; supplementing  220/110kV substation and 220kV branch into the planning, assigning investors of solar power plants in Binh Thuan area to make investment and manage operation for the items, striving to complete them by 2020.

EVN also proposed the Ministry of Industry and Trade to approve the additional planning of transmission lines: 110kV Phuoc Thai – Phuoc Huu and Phuoc Thai – Phuoc Huu DL 1.

Until now, the planning for total capacity of renewable energy sources such as wind power, solar power has been approved in the provinces of Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan, reaching  4,600MW; of which 41 plants were put into operation with a total capacity of about 2,140MW.
