AT2 transformer (220/110/22 kV - 250 MVA) TRANSFORMER 220 kV Thap Cham
On 30 October 2019, the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT) collaborated with relevant units to organize the acceptance and energization to raise the capacity of Thap Cham 220kV substation, from 250MVA to 500MVA.
The project is invested by EVNNPT; The construction is performed by Power Construction Joint Stock Company No.1, commenced in late September 2019. Accordingly, other items were conducted, replacing 2 existing 220/110/22kV - 125MVA transformers with 2 220/110/22kV - 250MVA transformers; at the same time completing the control - protection system in line with the newly- replaced transformer. In addition, it is equipped with fire prevention system suitable for newly-installed 220kV-250MVA transformers. In addition, the project is also equipped with a power metering system as prescribed.
The project is aimed at transmitting the capacity of renewable energy plants (wind power, solar power) in the northern area of Ninh Thuan province to the national grid; ensuring stable and long-term power supply for the socio-economic development of Ninh Thuan province as well as other provinces and cities in the region; at the same time enhancing the stability, safe and flexible operation in the grid. After being energized, the National Power Transmission Corporation will assign Power Transmission Company 3 to directly operate the work.
Mr. Dao Van Roi, Deputy Director of Ninh Thuan Industry and Trade Department, said that the replacement of two existing 220/110/22kV - 125MVA transformers with two 220/110/22kV - 250MVA transformers will help to release about 500MW of the province's current power capacity.
Up to now, Ninh Thuan province has had 18 projects officially put into commercial operation with a total capacity of 1,180MW; including 15 solar power projects, capacity of 1,063MW and 3 wind power projects, capacity of 117MW. However, due to the overload of transmission lines, 10 projects with a capacity of 359MW shall reduce the generation up to 60% of capacity, especially wind and solar power projects in the southern part of the province.
If it is cared, considered and agreed the Government on the investment policy of solar power plant projects in combination with the transmission infrastructure of 500kV Thuan Nam transformer station and connection line invested by the Trung Nam Construction Investment Joint Stock Company, Ninh Thuan province will basically solve the problem of power release for the province at the present as well as in the future.
