Accelerating progress of Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant Extension project

On July 8, EVN’s Vice President Pham Hong Phuong and the working group had a site inspection visit to Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant Extension project and had a review meeting on implementation results in the second quarter of 2024 and the project implementation plan in the near future.

In the third quarter, EVNPMB1 will continue to focus on resolving site clearance-related issues, coordinating with contractors to speed up construction progress with a number of goals such as: striving to construct basic water intake concrete to a height of 100.7m; keeping on pouring concrete for the powerhouse structure in the downstream area from a height of 17.15 to 31m; completing temporary excavation and reinforcement work, excavation work to lower the basement of water tunnel no. 1... The satisfactory implementation of the third quarter plan is an important basis for Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant Extension project to ensure the project implementation schedule for the whole year 2024.

Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant Extension project:

• Scale: 2 power units with a total installed capacity of 480MW

• Construction commencement: January 2021.

• Expected COD time of the 2 power units: June-July 2025.

• The total capacity of Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant after completing the extension project will be increased from 1,980MW to 2,460MW, equivalent to the capacity of Son La Hydropower Plant (2,400MW) - the largest Hydropower Plant in Southeast Asia.
