This is the first important milestone in the Hoa Binh Expanded Hydropower Plant Project (HBEHPP), according to the agreement signed between GE Hydro Solutions and EVN in early 2022.
Signing contract of electromechanical equipment supply - Hoa Binh Expanded Hydropower Plant project between Power Project Management Board No. 1 and GE - CMEC contractor joint venture, early 2022
HBEHPP is managed and operated by Power Project Management Unit No. 1 of EVN, consisting of 2 units with a total capacity of 480MW.
Under the signed agreement, GE Hydro Solutions and CMEC (China Machinery Engineering Corporation) shall supply electrical and mechanical equipment, including 2 240MW turbines, generators, control and protection systems, and all accessories and ancillary systems for the project.
According to the recent acceptance testing, the turbine model at the hydraulic technology practice laboratory in Grenoble has fully met the technical criteria required by EVN, ensuring the handover schedule of the project.

HBEHPP plays an important role in meeting Vietnam's growing energy demand, optimizing hydropower to increase power output, improving the supply capacity and stability of the electrical system.
The new units in the project are designed with the aim of increasing annual power output by about 488 million kWh. This also contributes to replacing the production and use of fossil fuels.
In Vietnam, some large hydropower projects that GE Hydro has participated in include: Son La Hydropower Plant (total capacity 2,400MW), Lai Chau Hydropower Plant (1,200MW), Huoi Quang Hydropower Plant (520MW) and many other projects, etc.
