The grid connected electrification project for Tien Hai island commune has a total investment cost of more than VND 182 billion. The project is composed of: 28 tower foundations on the sea, 16 foundations of steel towers on the shore and on the island. The 22 kV line on the sea is 17.6 km long. In addition, there are 13 km of 22 kV medium voltage line, 12.3 km of low voltage line and 8 distribution substations (with a total capacity of 825 kVA) on the island and the mainland.

Besides, 454 sets of meters and branches to customers' houses were installed.

Previously, EVNSPC commissioned, energized and put into operation the main route Mui Nai - Hon Doc 22 kV line on October 25, 2019, on schedule and with satisfactory quality, promptly meeting the electricity demand for production and residential activities of 454 households on Hon Doc island (the center of Tien Hai island commune), creating a premise to deploy the electricity supply to unelectrified islands in Hai Tac islands in the near future such as: Hon Tre Vinh, Hon Tre Nho, Hon Giang, Hon U and Hon Duoc.

Despite that the process of raising financial resource for the project faced many difficulties, EVNSPC determined to invest and successfully build this project, ensuring stable and uninterrupted power supply to serve the local people on the island. Thereby, the local people can use electricity at the same price as in the mainland, creating more favorable conditions for local economic development, expanding livelihoods such as ship repairing, fishing gear repairing, fisheries logistics, aquaculture, and developing the tourism potential on the island.

The project helps reduce the burden imposed on the state budget caused by subsidizing the annual loss for electricity generation by diesel turbines as before.

Tien Hai island commune is located about 17 km from the mainland of Kien Giang province, covering an area of 283.23 ha. On the island there are 454 households with about 2,000 people. The island commune is located in the fishing grounds of Kien Giang province, with many diverse marine specialties. The island has high potential for aquaculture with high economic value, favorable for fishing activities, seafood processing and aquaculture, fishery logistics and marine tourism.

The bringing the national power grid to Tien Hai island commune contributes to realizing targets of marine, island and coastal economic development; protecting the sovereignty over sea and islands of the country; protecting the environment, stimulating investment and economic growth in the area. It is also a remarkable achievement of EVNSPC to celebrate 65th anniversary of Vietnam Electricity Tradition Day.
