Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Marc E. Knapper said, the US highly appreciated the commitment of the Vietnamese Government at COP26; At the same time, he affirmed that the US would cooperate and support Vietnam in general and EVN in particular in the energy transition process.
The areas in which the United States can support Vietnam are the development of energy storage battery projects, LNG projects, and training support for Vietnam in the field of renewable energy. In addition, some large US banks are very interested in investing in the renewable energy sector in Vietnam.

Mr. Duong Quang Thanh - Chairman of EVN's Member Board said that after the COP26 conference, Vietnam launched an action plan and established the COP26 Steering Committee. Regarding energy transition, the Government has asked businesses, including EVN, to develop a roadmap to replace fossil energy sources with zero-emission energy sources. At the same time, the Ministry of Industry and Trade is requested to review and amend the draft Power Master Plan VIII in the direction of reducing coal-fired power and increasing renewable energy.
Also at the meeting, EVN proposed the US side support training and improve the quality of human resources for EVN; supporting the National Load Dispatch Center with short-term training on topics such as virtual power plants, renewable energy certificates, electric vehicles; organizing research and practical study programs in the United States in areas with potential for cooperation between the two sides such as offshore wind power, LNG plant development.
The two sides agreed to assign tasks to departments and focal points in developing implementation plans and realizing cooperation items in the coming time.
Over the past time, EVN and US businesses and organizations have developed close and effective cooperation in the energy field. Typically, in the period 2020-2021, EVN and the urban energy security project funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) cooperated to conduct research and assessment on the impact of distributed solar power on the power grid and finance of power companies. In 2022, the two sides will continue to discuss the implementation of research on the topic of solar power and electric vehicles.
In March 2022, EVN and US consultants carried out the first phase of research and development of LNG gas power plants in the South of Vietnam. Currently, the consultants have completed the draft report for phase 1 of the project, EVN has given comments to further improve the report and submit it to the competent authorities.
