At the meeting, EVN's President and CEO congratulated Mr. Andrew Jeffries on his appointment as ADB Country Director for Vietnam.
Emphasizing on the effective cooperation between the two parties in recent years, the leader of EVN expected Mr. Andrew Jeffries to introduce a lot of appropriate initiatives, solutions and activities to further promote the cooperation and a long-term partnership between EVN and ADB.
On this occasion, the President and CEO of EVN talked about the electricity supply situation for socio-economic development and presented some information related to the current Vietnamese electricity market. The President and CEO of EVN proposed that ADB keep on promoting the implementation of cooperation activities, especially in the financing area, to support EVN in arranging finance for investment projects, with the aim of well performing the mission of electricity supply for the national socio-economic development.

Mr. Andrew Jeffries – ADB Country Director for Vietnam highly appreciated the achievements and efforts of EVN during the recent years, and stated that EVN has utilized effectively financial resources provided by global financial institutions and international partners, including ADB. The figure of USD 2.7 billion that ADB has financed to EVN during the past 27 years (from 1994 to present) is one of the evidences.
The ADB Country Director for Vietnam added that ADB currently plans to support more than USD 500 million to invest in power transmission projects in the South and Bac Ai pumped storage project. In addition, ADB has been discussing with Hanoi Power Corporation (EVNHANOI) about financing their activities in the 5-year plan 2021 - 2025.
Regarding EVN’s proposals, the new Country Director of ADB in Vietnam affirmed that he will further promote the cooperation programs with EVN, strengthening bilateral relationships in order to facilitate the sustainable development of the power sector in general and EVN in particular.
