According to Mr. Ngo Son Hai, Vice President of EVN, hydropower currently accounts for about 30% of total designed capacity of Vietnam power system. With average annual load growth rate of about 11%, from now to 2020, Vietnam needs to invest in generation by 4,000-5,000 MW per year to meet domestic load demand. However, potential of hydropower development in Vietnam is no longer abundant. Therefore, optimizing management and operation of existing hydropower generation becomes so important.
Currently, Vietnam power system not only supplies domestic demand but also at the same time exports power to Cambodia and imports from China and Laos. Therefore, optimizing operation and maintenance of equipment served in Vietnam Power sector, from power generation to transmission and distribution grids, becomes an urgent need.
Catching this opportunity, JEPIC sent experts from Shikoku Electric Power Company, Electric Power Development Company (J-power) who directly involve in operating hydroelectric power plants to attend this seminar. Knowledge and practical experiences of Japanese experts will help Vietnamese colleagues in their daily work. At this seminar, staffs of EVN and its units have the opportunity to share their experiences in order to efficiently operate hydropower plants in Vietnam .
