Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung praises the achievements made by the Electricity sector in 65 years of construction and growth

“Up to now, 100% of communes and 99.25% of rural households have been supplied power, much higher than other countries in the region. Efficiency of electricity system operation is improved, in the top group of ASEAN and in proximity to developed countries”

Besides, EVN has actively implemented restructuring, gradually transforming operations in line with the market mechanism, including the formation of an official competitive electricity generation market since 2012 and operation of a competitive wholesale electricity market since 2019, eliminating subsidies, creating more competitiveness, transparency in power production and trading activities

In the stage of accelerating industrialization and modernization, in order to make Vietnam soon become a modern industrialized country, meeting the power requirement for socio-economic development and people's daily life is an especially important task. Therefore, the requirements imposed on the electricity sector are: Ensuring energy security, meeting sufficient power for socio-economic development and consumption of the people; stopping the situation of power shortages under any circumstances. To fulfill this requirement, the responsibility to be placed on the Electricity sector, in which EVN plays a leading role, is extremely heavy.

Mr. Duong Quang Thanh - Chairman of EVN's Board of Members affirmed that the Group would always make efforts to strive and unite to continue making EVN more and more grow, always a highly responsible enterprise to community and society

EVN has ensured power supply for socio-economic development and people's daily life, contributing to maintaining the country's economic growth at a high level for many consecutive years. In particular, the average growth rate of commercial power in the period 2000-2019 is 12.5%. Particularly in 2019, the commercial power output is estimated at 210 billion kWh, the average electricity use reaches 2,180kWh/person/year, an increase of 7.6 times compared to 2010’s.

In addition, power supply infrastructure has been invested to strongly develop all stages of power generation, transmission and distribution. From only 31.5MW of capacity (in 1954), up to now, the total installed capacity of the National electricity system is about 54,850MW, ranking 2nd in Southeast Asia and 23rd in the world.

The miraculous progress made by the Vietnam Revolutionary Electricity has also been shown through the construction and operation of many key regional and international power projects such as Hoa Binh Hydroelectric Plant, Pha Lai Thermal Power Plant, Son La Hydroelectric Plant; North-South 500kV ultra-high voltage line - the "backbone" of Vietnam electricity system has been added circuit 2, circuit 3; Power grids in the key economic zones of the North and the South shall be connected with loop circuits to ensure safe and reliable power supply.
