In the second quarter of 2021, EVN continued to well perform the task of preventing and combating the COVID-19 pandemic and ensuring the production and supply of power for production, business and people's daily life; ensuring electricity for the 11th session of the 14th National Assembly and the public holidays of 30 April to 1 May 2021.
As expected, in April 2021, the average power consumption of the whole system will be 713.6 million kWh/day, the largest load capacity is estimated at 38,285MW. The phenomenon of oversupply at noon, overloading the grid, leading to forced reduction of renewable energy will continue to appear.

To ensure safe and stable operation of the power system and electricity market, the power and grid operators in the national power system shall ensure accuracy, discipline and compliance with the dispatching regulations at the highest level.
EVN also requested the National Load Dispatch Center to exploit coal-fired thermal power and gas turbines following source configuration, in order to maximize the use of renewable energy sources; regulate hydropower reservoirs closely following the annual plan and ensuring water supply downstream for localities. Power Generation Corporations ensure the availability of generating units at the highest level in the dry season months. National Power Transmission Corporation operates safely and reliably the transmission grids, especially the North-South 500kV line system.
EVN also requires its member units to speed up the progress of investment and construction projects; specifically, to soon complete commercial power generation of unit 2 of Thuong Kon Tum hydropower project; strive to commence the expanded Ialy Hydropower project and the Phuoc Thai 2 and 3 solar power projects; ground preparation and conditions for commencement of the Dung Quat Power Center Infrastructure project. For the project of 500kV line, circuit 3, the Unit will strive to energize Doc Soi - Pleiku 2 line section in April 2021, urge the units, coordinate to perform compensation for site clearance in accordance with the Telegram 393/CD-TTg, dated 29 March 2021 of the Prime Minister, and so on.
In the first quarter, in the first 3 months of the year, power production and import of the whole system reached 59.65 billion kWh, increasing 4.1% over the same period in 2020. Power supply management has closely followed the power demand of the whole country and in the regions, ensured the mobilization of power sources in line with the hydrological situation, at the same time ensured downstream water supply and agricultural production.
In the first quarter, the demand for additional loads decreased sharply due to the influence of COVID-19, hence, at some point, the reduction of power sources in general, renewable energy sources in particular is required to ensure a safe power supply. Compared to the first quarter of 2020, the mobilization of coal thermal power, gas-burnt thermal power, and imported power decreased sharply; while renewable energy sources were mobilized at 7.79 billion kWh (up 180.6%), of which solar power was at mobilized 7.13 billion kWh.
In the activities of business and customer service, since 2020, EVN has piloted the integration of technical and business systems to reduce the number of procedures and shorten the time of handling new power supply requests. In particular, the reliability of the power supply has been significantly improved. The System Average Interruption Duration Index (SAIDI) was 262.7 minutes, decreasing by 43.9 %% compared to that of the same period in 2020; the System average interruption frequency index (SAIFI) was 2.02 times, decreasing by 28.87% over the same period in 2020.
In the first 3 months of the year, EVN and its member units continue to promote online payment. Currently, the percentage of customers making non-cash electricity payments for the whole EVN is 67.52%; The proportion of electricity bills that are paid without cash is nearly 90%.
EVN and its affiliates have completed energizing 27 projects of 110kV to 500kV power grid, including urgent grid projects such as: energizing line 2 500kV lines connecting Nghi Son 2 thermo-power plant into the national electricity system, energizing to increase the capacity of Quang Ninh 500kV transformer station, and so on.
