The mission of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment inspecting the operation of Son La Hydropower Reservoir
According to Mr. Khuong The Anh - Director of Son La Hydropower Company, in the first 3 months of the year, the hydrological situation is better than that of the same period in 2020. The discharge of Son La hydropower reservoir is higher than the average level of many years at 18% and higher than 2020’s at 26%. The discharge to Lai Chau Reservoir is equivalent to 85% compared to the average level for years and higher than in 2020 at 39%.
Hydropower reservoirs of Son La, Lai Chau are operated in accordance with regulations. The reservoir water level is closely monitored, ensuring that the project operation does not exert a great impact on production and people's livelihood activities at the upstream of the reservoir. The company also works closely with the units that manage and operate the Hoa Binh, Ban Chat, Huoi Quang reservoirs in ensuring safety preventing against floods and ensuring the water demand at downstream.
Son La Hydropower Company has installed 14 warning loudspeaker systems, 16 warning signs located in riverside communes/villages at downstream of Son La hydropower dam; 5 warning loudspeaker systems and 5 warning signs at downstream in Nam Nhun district, Lai Chau province and Muong Lay town, Dien Bien province.
The establishment and management of corridors to protect water sources; Exploitation, use of water resources and protection of reservoir environment comply with the provisions of law regulations. The protection corridor for Son La hydropower reservoir was constructed and handed over to local authorities in 2015. Lai Chau hydropower reservoir protection corridor was built and handed over to the local authorities in 2016.
The Company has paid money for granting exploitation rights of water resources, natural resource tax and fulfilled other financial obligations in exploiting and using water resources in accordance with the law. The connection and transmission of monitoring information and data on water resources monitoring system comply with the provisions of Circular No. 47/2017/TT-BTNMT dated 7 November 2017 of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.
