In 2018, the Program and the Set of CSI were included in Resolution No. 19 on continuing to improve the business environment, enhance national competitiveness in 2018 and coming years. For the first time participating in the Program, Viet Nam Electricity (EVN) was honored to be ranked in the list of Viet Nam’s 100 Sustainable Enterprises in 2018 by the Council. The Program is a “momentum” raising awareness, encouraging Vietnamese enterprises in general and EVN in particular towards strong sustainable development (SD).
The Sustainable Enterprise Index (CSI) Set for 2018 includes 131 criteria asymptotically adjusted with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards as well as in line with Vietnamese law and international practices. CSI 2018 can be applied to all types of enterprises and is a power tool to assist enterprises in preparing sustainable reports under international GRI standard. CSI shows the strong development of enterprises.
In order to meet the criteria set in CSI 2018 and gain the certification of 100 enterprises achieving “Vietnamese Sustainable Enterprise 2018”, over the past years, EVN has drastically implemented many measures, thoroughly grasped the direction of the Government in its development strategy. In addition to the recognition from VCCI, the striving and efforts of EVN have been recognized by the community and many international organizations in 2018:
- Power output has continuously grown over many years. In 2017, EVN reached 174.65 billion kWh, growing by 9.3% compared to that of 2016.
- Up to now, EVN has supplied power to 100% of communes and 98.83% of households. Viet Nam is recognized by the WB as one of the countries with best performance of power supply to rural and remote areas.
- The TRAC 2018 report on assessing practice of announcing enterprise information of Towards Transparency - the Coordinating Agency of Transparency International appreciated EVN as an enterprise with the best result among 15 State-owned enterprises assessed in the report.
- The environmental protection (EP) is always paid attention by EVN to all areas and throughout from investment preparation, implementation as well as in production and business activities. EVN and its units all thoroughly update and strictly execute the Law on Environmental Protection 2014 and relevant Decrees and Circulars.
- 37 levels higher than that in 2017, being the economy with the strongest improvement in Access-to-electricity index in the region. Viet Nam has surpassed the Philippines and is currently ranked at 4th position in ASEAN region - ASEAN-4. Particularly regarding the number of procedures and implementation time of the Power sector, Viet Nam has ranked 2nd in ASEAN region. In 2018, 100% of EVN’s power supply services can be registered online, which is equivalent to Level-3 public services. Up to now, electricity services are inter-connected to publish on online public service websites of 42 provinces/cities, electricity bill payment in various forms, creating favourable conditions for customers.
Achieving the title of “Vietnamese Sustainable Enterprise 2018” has contributed to affirming positive results from EVN’s continuous efforts towards strong sustainable development, properly meeting international practices and criteria for sustainable enterprise development.
