Ensuring safe operation of hydropower plants in Son La, Lai Chau

On January 15, the conference to summarize the work performamce in 2020 and to implement the tasks in 2021 of the Son La Hydropower Company was organized in Son La. The event was also attended by Mr. Pham Hong Phuong - Deputy General Director of Vietnam Electricity (EVN), Mr. Do Duc Hung - Chairman of EVN Trade Union.

In 2020, Son La Hydropower Company has "reached the milestone" of the cumulative power production of the two plants reaching 100 billion kWh (11 October 2020), in difficult conditions due to complicated hydrological developments. and the impacts by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Power output in 2020 reaches 103.12% of the plan

Mr. Khuong The Anh - Director of Son La Hydropower Company said: In 2020, the company proactively monitored the developments and coordinated with relevant units to propose and coordinate to ensure proper operation and procedure, making the most of the water resources and absolute safety for the works, upstream and downstream areas of the reservoir. The quality management of the works, the reservoir protection corridor are always implemented in accordance with the current regulations. For many years, the report on dam and reservoir safety assessment has been highly appreciated by the Scientific and Technological Advisory Council for the safety of hydropower systems on the Da river ladder, the data are reliable and exactly reflect the operation of the whole project.

Total power production of the two plants in 2020 is 11.56 billion kWh of power, reaching 103.12% of the plan assigned by EVN. In particular, during the year, the company proactively proposed to EVN, the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and related ministries and agencies to make the most of the water sources. Specifically, from 27 September 2020 to 25 October 2020, the Son La hydropower reservoir maintained its water level of 215 meters higher than the normal rising level (the highest water level was at 4:00 am on 10 October 2020 is 216.86m), increasing the output of over 110 million kWh for Son La hydropower plant, reducing the excess discharge for the plant.

The coordination of repair and maintenance of technological equipment with EVN Repair Service Center performed properly in accordance with regulations. By 2020, at the Son La and Lai Chau hydroelectric projects, 43 major repair items, 60 regular repairs, and 8 construction investment items shall be completed. Lists/items are well performed  to ensure progress, quality and meet technical requirements as prescribed.

In 2021, striving to produce nearly 12 billion kWh

11,983 billion kWh is the target set out by Son La Hydropower Company in 2021. At the same time, it is scheduled to ensure the operation of 2 plants in accordance with the inter-reservoir operation process and the method of capacity mobilization  of the National Load Dispatch Center.
