Ho Chi Minh City: More than 90.5% of customers pay electricity bills online

As of the end of 2018, over 90.5% of electricity customers in Ho Chi Minh City had paid electricity bills online, instead of using cash. Ho Chi Minh City is the leading in the country in online electricity bill payment.

Mr. Nguyen Duy Quoc Viet - Deputy General Director of Ho Chi Minh City Power Corporation (EVNHCMC) stated that this achievement was thanks to a long journey of the Corporation from 2003, by gradually taking solutions in order to raise people's awareness and habits in non-cash payment.

Specifically, EVNHCMC has cooperated with banks to robustly and concurrently implement information dissemination and communication activities in order to create an effect on non-cash payment trend and prioritize automatic debit payment form.

In parallel, preferential policies have been introduced through many programs such as: lottery drawing programs of EVNHCMC for online electricity payers; automatic debit electricity bill payment encouraging programs of Vietcombank; programs of An Binh Bank, Mservice (Momo wallet), Viettinbank, Techcombank, etc., bringing a lot of added values to customers.

In particular, EVNHCMC has carefully prepared technical infrastructures to promptly meet the needs of expanding and diversifying electronic payment channels; constantly developing more prestigious and high potential collecting agents.

From contracting with 02 banks, Vietcombank and BIDV in 2003 just for collecting electricity bill payments, with the payment of electricity bills through ATM cards, today EVNHCMC has cooperated with 23 banks and 09 partners to collect electricity bill payments through 2,279 ATMs, 6,973 collection locations which are banks’ transaction offices, convenient stores, supermarkets, or via SMS/Mobile/Internet Banking, etc., which provide customers with more options.
