Ho Chi Minh City's power distribution grid has been operated simultaneously by two advanced control centers

On 7 April 2022, Ho Chi Minh City Power Corporation (EVNHCMC) inaugurated the project of Control Center 2 under the Ho Chi Minh City Power System Dispatch Center. This new control center operates completely independently from the existing control center, being established to secure the power supply for the city in an uninterrupted and absolutely safe manner in all situations.

Control Center 2 of EVNHCMC has a total investment cost of VND 73 billion, is equipped with SCADA core software (supervisory control and data acquisition), a network host, with upgraded DAS software (a system for distribution grid automation, automatically shifting loads and isolating fault points on the power grid, in less than 1 minute without the intervention of dispatchers), added with RTU/Gateway for the SCADA system at intermediate stations, etc.

During the construction of the center, EVNHCMC's staff have carried out all stages by themselves, from designing to planning and installing configuration, etc.

The project commenced in July 2021, been completed and put into safety and reliability testing and operation since February 2022.

Mr. Luan Quoc Hung - Deputy General Director of EVNHCMC said: "The project has clearly demonstrated the ability of technology self-mastering and self-implementation of EVNHCMC's technical staff, affirming the effectiveness and political - social, economic - technical indications of the project. At the same time, the project makes an important contribution to the process of power grid modernization, digitization and smart grid development of EVNHCMC as well as the overall development of the city."
