Joining hands to use electricity economically: Ensure dry season power supply for Southern region

The hot weather situation is increasingly complicated, especially in the South, along with solutions to ensure power supply, the electricity-saving work is being drastically implemented.

Implement the Prime Minister's direction in Directive 20/CT-TTg on electricity saving in the 2023-2025 period and the following years; and most recently is Directive No. 05/CT-BCT dated March 28, 2024, of the Minister of Industry and Trade on ensuring power supply during the peak months of the dry season in 2024, localities, businesses, agencies, units, enterprises, and people in the Southern provinces actively responded and implemented many solutions to use electricity economically and effectively.

For example, in Ho Chi Minh City, the City People's Committee has issued a Plan to implement electricity-saving in Ho Chi Minh City in the 2023-2025 period and the following years (Decision No. 6012/QD-UBND dated December 29, 2023), with specific targets such as Striving to save electricity at 2%/year; Reducing power loss across the system to less than 3.5%. Among them, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Industry and Trade has coordinated with Ho Chi Minh City Power Corporation (EVNHCMC) to organize propaganda activities on electricity saving and deploy load adjustment programs at key-consumed businesses and agencies in Ho Chi Minh.

Implementing this plan, Dong Nai Power Company said more than 35.2 thousand of their customers signed an electricity-saving commitment; 965 customers with a power consumption of 1 million kWh/year or more signed a commitment to participate in power load adjustment (demand response).

For businesses, to save electricity, each unit has different solutions. For example, 28 Corporation (Ho Chi Minh City) is one of the enterprises with a power consumption scale of over 1 million kWh/year. Since the beginning of the year until now, the company has saved about 20% on monthly electricity bills.

According to a representative of Tri Viet International Co., Ltd., thanks to applying many electricity-saving solutions, suitable for production conditions, the business has reduced power consumption by over 30%/month.

As a result, in Ho Chi Minh City, in March, the Corporation saved 165.86 million kWh. Meanwhile, in the first 3 months of the year, Southern Power Corporation saved 480 million kWh of electricity output, equivalent to 2.36% of commercial power output.
