The conference was held offline at Thanh Hoa conference station and online in 27 northern provinces/cities.
Saving electricity - Urgent solution
Mr. Nguyen The Huu - Deputy Director of Electricity Regulatory Authority (Ministry of Industry and Trade) affirming important role of using electricity economically and effectively
In 2024, the world situation is forecast to continue to become complicated and unpredictable. The Ministry of Industry and Trade requests customers to coordinate closely with the Electricity industry to plan production and business in accordance with the needs and limitations of production and peak times of the power system; implement electricity load shifting away from peak hours of the power system during hot months or arrange to transfer part of the production plan during hot months to the remaining months of the year; consider supporting self-use generator power sources when necessary during peak hours and at times of load adjustment, etc. The support and companionship of businesses with the Electricity industry will contribute to reducing pressure on the power system, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, protecting the environment, and increasing competitiveness in the international market, contributing to Vietnam's Net-Zero 2050 goal.
According to EVN’s President and CEO Nguyen Anh Tuan, in the first 3 months of 2024, the average growth in national electricity demand is 11.5%. In particular, the Northern region had a growth rate of 10% in commercial electricity for the first 3 months of the year. Many northern provinces and cities gain high growth rates such as Quang Ninh, Bac Giang, Hai Duong, Hai Phong, Thai Nguyen, Lao Cai, Phu Tho, Bac Ninh, Thai Binh, Ha Tinh, etc. In particular, some provinces' electricity demand increased by over 20% such as Quang Ninh (28.59%) and Ha Tinh (23.33%), etc. This puts great pressure on the power supply, especially during the peak hours.

EVN General Director emphasized that EVN and its member units have been making efforts to ensure power supply for socio-economic development and people's lives, especially during the peak months of the dry season. To successfully implement electricity demand management programs, Vietnam Electricity respectfully requests businesses and electricity customers to join hands and accompany EVN and its member units in the economical and efficient use of electricity.
Localities and businesses commit to joining hands with the Electricity industry
According to Mr. Mai Xuan Liem - Vice Chairman of Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee, in recent years, Thanh Hoa province's economy has always achieved high growth rates, with the 8th largest economy in the country and leading provinces in the Northern Central region. To gain this result, Thanh Hoa province highly appreciates the important role and contribution of EVN, EVNNPC, and Thanh Hoa PC in investing and perfecting power grid infrastructure, ensuring stable power supply for people's production and daily life with nearly 1,800 km of high-voltage power lines; Nearly 7,300 km of medium-voltage power lines, nearly 15,300 km of low voltage power lines.
Mr. Mai Xuan Liem - Vice Chairman of Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee acknowledges and appreciates contributions of EVN, EVNNPC, and Thanh Hoa PC to province’s development
“Thanh Hoa Province commits to accompany and support businesses in the program of economical and efficient use of energy in general and the program of electricity demand management and DR in particular. At the same time, we call on the business community in Thanh Hoa province to actively participate in the DR program that the Electricity industry is implementing for the benefit of businesses, the Electricity industry, and the whole country.", leaders of Thanh Hoa province emphasized

Mr. Trinh The Dung - Deputy General Director of VAS Nghi Son Group Joint Stock Company shared that as a large electricity user, with electricity consumption in 2023 of nearly 832 million kWh, VAS Nghi Son understands the importance of electricity in production. Therefore, in recent years, the company has always coordinated well with the Electricity industry to save electricity as well as participate in the Demand response (DR) program. There were times when the company participated in adjusting and reducing up to 60MW, equivalent to 40% of the company's total used capacity. In the coming time, VAS Nghi Son will continue to promote the implementation of electricity-saving solutions and accompany the Electricity industry in the DR program.
In 2023, despite facing many difficulties and challenges, EVNNPC has pioneered the implementation of programs to use electric energy economically and effectively and achieved many good results.
Specifically, in 2023, the corporation's saved electricity output will reach more than 1.82 million kWh, reaching 2.18% compared to the commercial one. The Corporation also signed an agreement to participate in the electricity DR program with 3,906/3,993 large electricity consumers, reaching a rate of 97.82%; During the year, 19,113 customers were participating in DR, with a total capacity reduction of 6,254MW; 1,878 customers signed a agreement memorandum to shift production hours to reduce capacity when the system has difficulty in getting power with a total capacity of 1,020MW.
In addition, the Corporation has developed and implemented the program "Assessing EVNNPC's potential for managing electricity demand for major customers"; and continued to enhance communication about the benefits of saving electricity, the benefits of participating in DR, and actively implementing the digital transformation to optimize and supply good-quality and efficient power.
In 2024, there will still be many difficulties and challenges, EVNNPC is determined to mobilize all resources to the maximum, ensuring a safe and continuous power supply to serve production and daily life of the people; at the same time, continue to promote the implementation of effective electricity use programs, including the DR program. To achieve that goal, EVNNPC hopes to continue receiving the cooperation and companionship of many electricity customers.
